Hired as an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer, primary duties were to provide guidance, over-sight and support to the 10 nuclear generating stations (17 units) in the Exelon fleet on various I&C issues. Areas of specialization included circuit cards and protective relays, along with I&C components, such as flow transmitters, level instrumentation, etc. Specialty areas included ownership of 'templates' for maintenance of the devices covered, which guide the stations' maintenance activities and schedules.
Some highlights of this work include:
1 Managed 60 Performance-Centered Maintenance (PCM) Templates, including annual reviews.
2 Prepared Medium Voltage Protective Relaying training materials, designed to introduce basic concepts and design philosophies to plant electrical engineers. 3 Provided engineering support to generating stations on events that threatened to require a plant shutdown (loss of generation) if not resolved within the time limits dictated by Technical Specifications.
4 Served as Exelon's representative to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Wireless Group.
5 Provided engineering guidance to station personnel on technical issues, ensuring all plants resolved a particular problem in the same way. Assisted standardization of equipment, components and procedures across the fleet.
6 Provided oversight on plant trip I shutdown events to ensure procedure adherence in the determination of continued plant operability, root cause analysis, and recommended resolution(s) to the problem.
In 2005, re-assigned to the Electrical group and appointed Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Stationary Batteries and DC Systems. Hosted quarterly meetings with DC System representatives from each of the stations, and acted as intermediary in the resolution of various problems with the DC Systems. 1 Built department staff size to more than 12 people (engineers, designers and CAD operators); became the source of choice for EII&C design engineering for the VEC's two major clients (Citgo and Mobil).
2 The E&I Department allowed for VEC's entry into the electric utility market, executed projects for Midwest Generation's Fisk and Joliet Stations, as well as ComEd's Chicago North Division Transmission and Distribution systems upgrades.

Engineer, Pilgrim Station (1998)
Assigned to a team working at Boston Edison Co.'s Pilgrim Station (in Plymouth, MA), modeling the plant's safety related power distribution system (using ETAP PowerStation software), ran calculations and analyses. Specific responsibilities included the Emergency Diesel Generator loading sequence, and bus loading under various postulated accident scenarios (LOCA, LOOP, LOCA w/LOOP, etc.). Developed bus load cases for 100% Power (SummerlWinter), Turbine Trip and Shutdown for short-circuit, voltage drop and load flow studies. Assisted in writing a guidebook for future users of the ETAP software.

Served as Site Lead for Commonwealth Edison's Design Basis Initiative (DBI) project, to establish and maintain the design basis for nuclear generating stations. Reviewed station's Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (UFSAR), verified adequacy of the design basis in support of the UFSAR statements, and validated by identifying evidence (drawings, procedures, etc.) of the Station's compliance.
