Rano (Ray) Bertolozzi

I am a senior business manager, OEM sales executive, and good engineer / manager. My greatest successes were leading teams that developed successful new products, and improving the performance of businesses.

Some of my accomplishments:

* At Helmold (now part of Böhler Uddeholm) I managed the operation of its automated rule processing equipment business. This equipment is used in the die cutting industry. Hired at conception, I initially did sales, designed tools, trained users, quoted systems, and wrote manuals. Later in the program worked with the Japanese manufacture to make significant product improvements. The improved design increased US sales significantly and achieved a 70% market share in Japan. Identifying an associated market needs, personally designed a highly regarded fluid power assisted manual press and several new dies. The need for a new die set I identified was the company’s best-selling die set for two years.

* At MPC, as VP, managed the design and sales of large custom made welded high performance plastic containment systems and bladder tanks up to 175,000 gallon capacity. Also, when meeting with oil companies I identified a need for a containment device for service stations. Working with plant and vendor people developed a patented plastic fuel containment devise, (#5,167,470), $1 million dollar first order.

* At USG Corp. I managed three businesses.

- In three years made the bankrupt Transportation Product Division (Railroad and Truck parts) into one with the highest ROI at this Fortune 150 company. Market share increased from 8% to 85% by, encouraging product and manufacturing improvements. Improved profitability was mentioned in USG’s annual report.

- Managed the development of USG's security wall, this included managing research at two universities.

- Managed Plastic Products Div., improved sales and helped introduce new manufacturing process.

* At Berg/FIAT I was project manager for a truck pneumatic antilock braking system. My duties included managing the vehicle test program, developing the mechanic training program, and assisting sales by doing technical presentations. I testified, as an expert, at congressional hearings. When the company recognized my sales ability I was made OEM sales manager. I significantly improved sales and market share. I was directly responsible for Detroit accounts and managed sales people in the other parts of the country.

* Other experience include;

-At my own company designed and built an apparatus to vibration test railroad car parts, designed and made AutoCad manufacturing and catalog drawings for proprietary bending dies and presses. I also did consulting work for Fortune 500 clients, like General Dynamics, Kodak, Philip Morris, Kodak, and IKG.

- Wrote several articles for trade publications.

- In high school took Smith Hughes Tool and Die program. After school worked as a welder in a steel shop.

- In college received a BSME. I concentrated on hydraulic and pneumatic components and systems. Worked part time as a credit manager.

- Current, I volunteer for AARP Tax-Aid as Des Plaines Local Coordinator. I manage the three Des Plaines tax preparation sites. I am expanding our capacity; we may become the largest site in Illinois. This work is similar as managing a business. My management skills are just as challenged with unpaid volunteers as it was with paid staff.
