WORK EXPERIENCE
Remec Broadband Microwave Networks San Diego, CA March 2015 - present
Electronic Design Engineer – Design, test and troubleshooting of power supplies. RF system design and test.
Accomplishments:
EMC qualification of radio equipment
Design refinements for RF and DC power supply circuitry
PoE circuit design
Mesa Power Systems Escondido, CA 2013-2015
Power Supply Test Engineer - Responsible for the test and troubleshooting of a variety of power supply/control circuits. These include dc-dc converters and off line converters up to about 500W. Debugging of supervisory microcontroller code used to establish efficiency of PWM and power-factor correction circuits.
Accomplishments:
Failure analysis for customer’s statistical evaluation model
Troubleshooting and repair field failures and manufacturing defects
Analysis of code for Microchip PIC controllers - for troubleshooting of power supplies
Datron World Communications Vista, CA 1998-2009
Electronic Design Engineer – All aspects of RF circuit and system design and test for radio circuits up to 1000 MHz
Accomplishments:
Radio system component and subcircuit specification and design, IF and RF – Amplifiers, mixers, filters and attenuator circuits
Receiver system tradeoff analysis – Noise figure and 3rd order intermodulation distortion analysis
Redesign of PLL synthesizer - Changed transmitter design to direct upconvert simplify design and reduce spurious emissions
Design of lowpass harmonic filter – seven band design covering 2-30 MHz for 100W minimum at 85 C, requiring low loss and steeps skirts
Redesign of Audio Distribution Board Circuit used to process and switch audio signals; redesigned to convert from through-hole to surface-mount technology and to resolve obsolescence issues
Managed Automated Test System Design – for HF and VHF radio systems
Redesign of 7 band Low-pass Harmonic filter - Corrected design flaws in four-layer board resulting from inappropriate layer stack-up and pre-preg thickness, which caused excessive parasitic and mis-matched impedance problems.
Technical Writing – Contributions to technical manual theory of operation of circuits I had designed or managed, and test strategies involving BIT (built-in-test) capability
Sustaining Engineering –
Developed test plan for automated testing of existing products
Provided solutions for problems related to obsolescence in legacy product lines, including circuit redesign and re-definition of testing strategies
TOLLGRADE COMMUNICATIONS Carlsbad, CA 1996-1998
Associate Electrical Engineer
Layout and prototyping/debugging of telephone line impedance analyzer circuit
Layout and prototyping/debugging of 8W planar DC/DC converter converting -48V to several lower rails; used mill to corrected designed errors in 8-layer PCB requiring machining precision less that 0.001 inch
