Project title: A Development Approach of OCR Based Assistive System for Visually Impaired People

Description:

The proposed system is to help the visually impaired on reading text. The existing system for visually impaired is the Braille method which is a traditionally written with embossed paper. But there are some difficulties such as the visually impaired people cannot read the text on normal paper. The OCR method is employed which converts the images of typed or printed text into machine encoded text. From the Web-Camera is captured the text image. The captured text image is converted into text with the help of Tesseract OCR library package. Then the text is converted into speech signal with the help of the E-speak library package. The converted speech signal is read out through the earphones of the visually impaired persons. The software employed in this system is Python. The entire system is implemented using Raspberry Pi 3 model. Software requirements:

Operating system : Raspbian is a version of Linux. Coding Language : Python 3.7

Library Packages : Tesseract, OpenCV, E-speak

Hardware requirements:

IDE : Raspberry pi-3

Sensor : Ultrasonic Sensor

Other Hardware : Web-Camera, Ear-Phone
