Resume:

Marius Rowell BSc, Dip. Math, Eng Tech, MIET

Career summary:

Beginning as a British Army radar repair technician in 1974 I progressed to control system maintenance and commissioning before moving into the oil exploration field, first as a down-hole instrument maintenance engineer and then as a field engineer operating state of the art Magnetic Resonance Imaging instruments before immigrating to the USA. Since then I have worked as a research associate designing low power data transceivers, a spell as a marine electronics engineer supervising a repair team, before joining K-TEK as an R&D engineer working with guided and through air liquid level detection devices used in various industries designed to operate at extreme temperatures and pressures.

Proficiencies:

Fully trained and highly experienced with electronics lab test equipment, and Radio Frequency test and measurement instruments, including oscilloscopes, multi-meters, RF spectrum analyzers, vector impedance analyzers, noise figure meters, RF power meters, digital data analyzers, VSWR measurement. Fully conversant with RF design methodology, including the use of Smith charts, conjugate matching for RF amplifiers, antenna and phased array design from 300KHz to 30GHz. Computer skills include all Microsoft operating systems and software, with additional knowledge of UNIX, AIX, C++ and Visual BASIC.

Fully conversant with Reliability Analysis, FMEDA and SIL calculations for plant safety analysis.

Design of electronic circuits using Altium EDA software, NI Multi Sim, plus Micro Wave Office, ADS and Genesis RF Analysis software. Design and programming of FPGA/CPLD devices using Verilog, VHDL and schematic capture.

Education:

Bachelor of Science Degree, Open University, England, 1996-2004.

Higher National Certificate in Electronics and Communications Engineering, Salisbury College of Technology, England, 1981-1983 with Level 5 endorsements in Mathematics and Electrical Principles (1985-86)

British Army Radar Technician Class I, REME School of Electronics Engineering, England, 1979

Experience:

Sep 2005 - present - K-TEK Inc (Now ABB K-TEK Level Products)

Baton Rouge, LA

Senior Design Engineer

Originally hired as a production technician before being promoted to shift manager, where tasks included solving existing production problems as they occurred, and improving production methodology and procedures to streamline manufacturing processes.

Reduced late order completions from more than 20 weeks to 1-2 weeks, with expectation that by year end the company could deliver orders on time every time.

Moved into R&D Department as a Design Engineer responsible for the development and improvement of the company's Guided Wave Radar (GWR) Level Measurement device.

Completed Failure Mode, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis on the company's two flagship products - the GWR and the AT Accutrak Magnetostrictive level measuring device, enabling K-TEK to become the first to have two SIL2 (Safety Integrity Level 2) devices on their product portfolio.

Designed a method for remote measurement of liquid levels in highly radioactive spent fuel rod storage pools for Westinghouse, turning a $1500 product into a $18,000 product.

Worked on non-contact 6GHz level measuring device until company cancelled the project due to cost.

Designed FM approved low power Intrinsically Safe MODBUS (RS485) interface for use in Zone 0 areas.

Performed root cause analysis of product to determine cause of measurement jitter and early failures of GWR product. Improved accuracy from +/- 1/4" to better than 1/8".

2002-2005 - Bayou Marine Electronics Inc.

New Orleans, LA

Marine Electronics Technician/Supervisor

Hired to perform repair and installation of boat electronics systems (such as HF and VHF radios, radars, GPS, depth sounders, engine control and monitoring systems, steering control systems)

Involved in job planning and supervision of other technicians during installation work, and insurance inspections of damaged equipment, as well as equipment and parts ordering and invoicing as required.

Appointed as project engineer for the installation of a wrap-around radar system on offshore oil platforms.

2000-2002 - Axonn LLC

New Orleans, LA

Research Associate

After immigrating to the U.S.A I was hired to assist the Chief RF Engineer in design test and measurement, verification and FCC approval I made major contributions the enhancing the performance of the latest direct sequence spread spectrum BPSK and OOK transceiver by improving receiver sensitivity, minimizing the noise figure and improving antenna design by measurement.

Most significant achievement was to achieve a 3dB noise figure using a device the manufacturer rated as a 7dB device.
