“Electrochemical recovery of chromium (III) oxide from hexavalent chromium and its application to coatings” under the guidance of Dr. S. Maruthamuthu

(Senior Principal Scientist, Corrosion and Materials Protection Division). The present invention relates to a technological process employing electrochemical principles for reduction of hexavalent chromium and reuse of the recovered chromium in paint industry. The recovered chromium (III) oxide was characterized through SEM & EDAX, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy

(FT-IR) etc. 5% of the recovered chromium (III) oxide was used as pigment for formulating acid resistance coating and better performance was noticed was accelerated corrosion tests.

“Electrochemical oxidation of high organic content tannery effluent and its safe disposal” under the guidance of Dr. Maruthamuthu (Senior Principal Scientist, Corrosion and Materials Protection Division).

The principle aim of this work is to reduce the COD content of the effluent through combined electrochemical oxidation and bacterial reduction. Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), UV-Vis Spectroscopy and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) analyses form the physiochemical characterizations which ease the effluent treatment.
