EDUCATION
Honours Bachelor of Science in Indigenous Environmental Science 2018
Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario
Completed an honours thesis to investigate the uptake and metabolism of organic selenium compounds in green algae to understand the bioavailability of organic selenium species
Voluntary courses highlight Indigenous culture, environmental examination, and degree relevant chemistry topics, all of which have developed skills to successfully communicate a multitude of topics to various audiences
Courses included Mohawk (Kanienkehaka) Language, Ecology, Environmental Air Pollution, Atmospheric and Aquatic Environmental Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry
Core courses taught the importance of bridging cultures to find the most effective solutions and the need for environmental social justice globally
WORK EXPERIENCE
Junior Environmental Scientist 2017-2018
NSERC USRA recipient at Trent University to work with environmental chemistry professor, Dr. Dirk Wallschläger, to quantify the concentration of organic selenium compounds in mining effluent through analytical chemistry techniques
Responsible for researching methods, running analytical equipment, and data analysis to quantify the concentration of compounds in water samples
One project led to an immense amount of trouble-shooting just to give the client as many answers as science would allow
This opportunity increased independency, confidence, creativity, and critical thinking to complete tasks with the resources available in a timely manner
Indigenous Environmental Studies/Science (IESS) Researcher 2016-2017
Responsible for compiling events that the program hosted throughout the year in order to collect data and feedback for such
Researched opinions about the classes through creating and distributing surveys on the Qualtrics program
Analyzed the data from the surveys to summarize key results for the betterment of the IESS program
Time management, communication, and writing skills were improved through balancing a part-time job with full-time school that led to self-growth
Car Detailing and Preparation 2018-2019
Assisted in fixing, preparing, and cleaning of cars at CSN Uptown Collision, which allowed me to always keep myself busy
Responsibilities fostered efficiency, customer service skills, attention to detail, and communication skills
Kitchen Supervisor/Server 2010-2018
Worked at Erin Heights Golf Course in the food and beverage sector preparing and serving meals, drinks and overseeing the task to ensure smooth service
Responsibilities included stocking, taking orders, cleaning, delegating jobs to other staff, training new employees, ringing off the tills and closing the clubhouse
Learned decisiveness, multi-tasking, work ethic, delegation, and problem-solving skills so that the kitchen ran efficiently and orderly
