PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

INDY MUSIC TECHNOLOGIES, Aurora, OR 2014 - Present

Lead Developer/Project Manager

Recruited to spearhead the ASP.Net project that was 24 months behind schedule for participation in the 2014 South-By-Southwest trade show. Accepted the position of Lead Developer, Chief Technology Officer, and finally Vice President. Directed the development of the database and interfaces including web, Android, and iOS applications to promote Indy Music’s e-commerce music technology and solutions.

Key Achievements:

Successfully completed the ASP.Net demo within 6 weeks to qualify for the South-By-Southwest trade show. Successfully restored the entire project again in 2016 after a 2-year lapse and brought it to completion.

Project Manager for desktop and mobile apps. Recruited offshore help and brought 4 platforms to production

Successfully brought entire product to production in September. Product is now being sold and used.

Technologies:

The entire project is .Net-based using DotNetNuke/Evoq as the CMS. DNN is Microsoft SQL-based. Currently, we are using MSSQL 2014 and the db consists of around 280 tables and 1400 sprocs along with various views and functions.

The project started out as a Winforms/MVP project and many of the modules remain as Winforms.

Starting in 2016, it became clear that any new development should be MVC-based from thereon in. Subsequent development used Angular and/or Knockout as the View. The project is also heavily reliant on jQuery and vanilla Javascript and makes extensive use of Ajax.

There are client apps – Windows, Mac, Android, iOS – that interact with the system through WebAPIs and those apps can be launched from the web via the use of a custom uri. In fact, when a customer purchases an album, they simply click the download button which triggers a custom uri which launches the client app. Of course, the customer can log into their account at a later time and re-download if they wish. Each customer account is also tied to any website/store that uses our system. The same username and password that works on one store works on all stores.

The technology we developed drives a musician’s or an organization’s web site or at the least, the e-commerce side of those sites. For example:

DNN has a native data provider or the developer can use an ORM if they wish. I started out with Entity Framework but it was clear early on that EF still suffers with performance issues. So, I wrote my own ORM. It was meant to be for this project only but is now being used in other projects. It answered our needs – it’s extensible and rather versatile and most importantly, it’s fast.

KVALLEY COMPUTERS & INTERNET, INC., Ellensburg, WA 1987 - Present

President

Built the first public internet service in Washington state, and one of the first in the United States, from the ground up. Delivered a wide range of computer and IT related services including database and data warehouse development, point-of-sale, and customer management. As president and lead developer, recruited and managed highly qualified personnel for various projects involving networking, database design, programming, web design, workstation and server design.

Key Achievements:

Built a company from the ground up in a completely new and innovative field to become a successful and profitable enterprise.

Significant Clients:

GCI – Anchorage, Alaska – Telecom –2010-2015 (overlapped for about a year with IMS)

RSN 11 – Regional Service network for Mental Health/Comprehensive Mental Health in Washington State. This RSN served about 300,000-400,000 population. 1997 – 2004. 40 hours/week for most of that time. The nice thing about them was they paid me portal to portal! I had to travel 35-50 miles one way, depending on which facility I was that day. At $60/hour. This was kind of a cool gig. Awesome team…and going home feeling like you did some good for someone that day.

California PolyTechnical – 91-98 – the Director of Admission (later the Dean and then VP) was my former boss at Central Washington University. I had developed a very nice student tracking system for him while he was here. He left for the CalPoly job in ‘91 and over the years, I would get fairly substantial contracts to develop the same system for his group.

Record Printing, Packaging and Design. 1994 – present. Started off as a printing company. Then, specialty food labels – organic food, wines, etc. – exploded in Washington State and RPPD got very big, very busy and very profitable very quickly. They now handle plastic packaging – environment-proof stuff – for the likes of Costco, Walmart and other large chains. Their clients are actually the food producers. I still work off and on as a consultant for them. Mostly database and web stuff – client portals, if you will.

CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES, Ellensburg, WA 2014 - 2016

Specifically asked to take 1 of 2 instructor positions for the new FlexIT program. Mentored, instructed and evaluated students who were working towards a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. Mastery of over 20 different subject matters relating to information technology and administrative management.

Key Achievements:

Developed a series of on-line, self-paced courses in Information Technology and Administrative Management

Developed and maintained the database and application for tracking and administering students’ progress, from a student’s initial application to the program through graduation.

Project Manager & Principal Developer March 1987 - August 1995

Recruited to develop databases and applications for the Office of Admissions and Registration. Principal developer for the conversion to a new student information system that was 18 months behind schedule. Analyzed employee work flow and processes to determine student admissions and financial aid requirements. Developed an application that reduced the processing time from weeks to within two hours. Wrote 17 additional applications that streamlined processes for better efficiency and saved the university 10,000 employee hours of work each year.

Key Achievements:

Brought the new student information system to full functionality by January 1, 1988.
