METHANEX CORPORATION, Calgary, Alberta, Canada 2017 – 2018

Director, Project Development - Global

Supported delivery of Methanex’s growth strategy and vision to remain the world’s largest producer and supplier of methanol by leading project development through the Screening and Option Select phases to Pre-FEED, including hands-on project roles within the FEED and Execute phases as needed by the project-specific execution strategy. Enhanced project delivery capability and culture within Methanex as source of competitive advantage by developing and delivering project processes and tools.

As Project Business Manager completed various deliverables such as drafting of project execution strategy for new-build $1.4B brownfield Geismar 3 methanol expansion project, managed Pre-FEED stage-gate assurance process to validate readiness to enter FEED, framed and directed set-up of SharePoint-based information and document management process and system, managed the preparation of FEED RFP and tendering process, prepared basis and criteria for contractor evaluation and recommendation for FEED and EPCM award.

Formulated the Project Management Centre of Excellence model, created its strategic direction and framework, and defined underpinning elements to enhance project execution capability, including leading the improvement of Minor CAPEX methodologies, processes and tools.

Led the commercial and technical development of the new-build $1.7B brownfield Medicine Hat 4 methanol expansion project with focus on commercial feasibility, plant scale selection and preferred technology.

HUSKY ENERGY, Calgary, Alberta, Canada 2013 – 2015

Manager, Project Management Office

Managed PMO team of 8 and supported annual $2.5-3.5B CAPEX project portfolio spend. Led development and improvement of Project Delivery Model (PDM) processes and tools, headed up PDM governance, directed project framing workshops, lessons learned reviews, post investment reviews, facilitated Value Improvement Practice workshops, and oversaw Advanced Project Management program.

Engineered innovative resource prioritisation to expand cross-business unit gate reviewer network, which increased gate review productivity from 8 in 2012, to 27 in 2013 and 28 in 2014 without increasing resources.

Directed the development and hosting of annual project management forum to share best practices and learnings. The 2014 event was 100% subscribed in less than 2 weeks with 175 attendees, close to 100% positive response with 88% respondents scoring “Very Good” and “Excellent”.

Oversaw the enhancement and delivery of new Commissioning & Start-up processes to 21 projects to improve effectiveness and consistency in project completions and turnover to operations.

Implemented change management service within Major Projects to achieve timely ROI from improvement initiatives by expediting the rate of adoption and maximizing the ultimate utilization.

WORLEYPARSONS 2005 – 2011

General Manager, Minerals & Metals, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (2009 – 2011)

Reported to Country Manager. Performed Minerals & Metals (M&M) business development in UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Vietnam. Accountable for strategic business planning, P&L with annual revenue of $29M, stewardship of performance-based engineering and project services alliances.

Provided M&M corporate stewardship on EPCM execution of $6B Emirates Aluminium greenfield project and subsequently won project services alliance for year-on-year sustaining projects, a strategically important first-of-its-kind in GCC region.

Conducted multi-day contract negotiations as sole negotiator under communications-constrained conditions and won PMC contract for $250M Vinachem diammonium phosphate expansion project in Vietnam.

Managed set-up of newly awarded engineering and project delivery services contract with Sohar Aluminium and led establishment of new regional office at Sohar in Oman.

Location Manager, Gladstone, Queensland, Australia (2006 – 2009)

Reported to Director Queensland. Oversaw general management of regional full-service multi-disciplined project delivery office. Directly managed 6 managers across 3 physical locations. Responsible for business operations, business planning and development, P&L, engineering and project delivery, human resources.

Grew regional business from 43 to 96 staff, increasing revenue from $6M to $21M over ~3 years.

Won Rio Tinto Alcan Yarwun project services alliance contract in 2007, led resourcing efforts to recruit 35 personnel to a rural work location in 3 months, and directed site-based and home office alliance set-up.

Managed multiple small to medium brownfield projects at Boyne Smelters’ aluminium smelter production facility.

Led $14M Block Casting Project from Idea Development to FEED/ Feasibility within 8 weeks, which was formally recognised as best practice fast-track execution by Boyne Smelters management.

Managed technical integration and coordinated battery limit interfaces across all Process Areas on Canadian Natural Resources’ $6.8B Horizon Oil Sands greenfield project.

Coordinated and facilitated integration scope elements during FEED and EPC phases involving 13 third party EPC Contractors (including ABB Lummus, Technip, SNC Lavalin, Bechtel, Jacobs and AMEC) ensuring project, process and utility interfaces between Process Areas and U&O were clearly defined, scoped and implemented.
