SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS
Optimized assembly process for a network switch product family consisting of 200 variations. Production was scaled from 2500 to 5000 mixed units a week with no increase in footprint or resources. Existing assembly lines were converted to individual universal build stations. Materials were kitted down to the unit level with non-skilled assembly steps being completed before delivery. Priorities were aligned on a daily basis to facilitate the best test flow.
Released and supported 37 long-life industrial computer systems in 3 generations over 7 years. Each generation improved performance, reliability, and serviceability while keeping COG’s flat. Additional savings realized through consolidation of models and components, which reduced FRU’s and streamlined training and documentation. Systems were designed for a 15 year lifespan. Quick service times and backwards compatibility were a major focus.
Managed computer related supply chain through divisional representation on the Corporate Commodity Team. Reduced suppliers from 320 to 86 and worked to get 5 major suppliers on corporate contracts. Corporate contracts provided for open-book pricing, extended warranties, and rebates based on annual spend. Cost savings were estimated at $3M per year.
Specified and managed standardized computer related hardware and software used in products sold worldwide. Converted/introduced 33 standardized products. Average COG’s savings were $1K to $4K per unit, in addition to substantially reduced development time and higher MTBF ratings. Standardization of FRU’s resulted in an additional savings of $2.5M over a 4 years period.
Core team member of the Environmental Compliance Council. Directed companywide efforts in meeting the July 1, 2006 EU RoHS standards for removal of six hazardous substances used in computer and computer related products. This was a 2 year project touching every product and spare part. Project status was presented to the CEO, President, and CMO on a quarterly basis. Meeting this deadline prevented lost revenue and substantial penalties.
