It was with much interest that I read your job posting concerning the Product Design Engineer Position. I am a recent graduate from the University of Toronto with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. I firmly believe that my education, skill set, recent experience and deep passion to pursue a career in product design, makes me an ideal candidate for the position.
In accordance with the requirements for the position, I have extensive knowledge and experience in product parts design. My recent experiences include working in a 4th year multidisciplinary capstone project to design a plug-and-play autonomous control system that will steer an apple-picking scissor lift for our client, Halltech Precision Systems Inc. The project required continuous mechanical/electronic simulations to validate the conceptual design, machining and building the prototype to validate the final design. My work as the mechanical lead was to design for manufacture mechanical components in our prototype. I was also tasked with designing the soldering and installation of electrical components onto the prototype. All designs were drafted using SolidWorks, using design principles taught throughout courses at the University of Toronto. In addition, my experience includes working at GeoSat Aerospace and Technology as a product design intern. During my internship, I designed and developed working CAD models of UAV drones and performed FEA’s using the simulation tool ANSYS. My work also required me to understand the product development cycle of UAV drones, specifically the coordination between design and manufacturing processes. My passion for good design fueled me throughout my internship and it was an amazing experience. I can confidently say that working as an intern at GeoSat has allowed me to excel in a multidisciplinary environment and as a product design engineer.
Lastly, I have taken graduate level courses in product design and advanced manufacturing technologies which includes product design, design of experiments for prototype testing, tolerance analysis, failure mode effects and analysis and quality control. I have thorough knowledge in using CAD software such as SolidWorks, OnShape, AutoCAD as well as extensive knowledge in circuits including design for fabrication PCBs using EagleCAD. Manufacturing courses has also provided in-depth knowledge about quality control, injection molding and advanced 3D printing methods.
I believe I would be able to utilize my skills to good use at your company as well as learn and expand my experience in mechanical design.
