Operations lead for all Koch Minerals sites across the USA. These sites provide dry bulk storage and vessel loading operations, handling coal, petroleum coke, sulfur, salt and magnetite. Developed Operations Excellence tools for these sites, including a leading indicator performance pay system to reward the operations team for proactive actions around EHS and reliability risk mitigation, and a standardized method to monitor financial performance based on compliance, reliability, efficiency, personnel and capital expenditures for plant and fleet equipment.

Led a $30 million EPC compliance/reliability project at a waterfront terminal in Chicago, IL, providing the customer a reliable system for petroleum coke supply via rail to water.

Coordinated a $5 million magnetite drying facility acquisition in Benton, IL. Administered a capital improvement plan of $1 million and recruited new management/staff. Additional storage increased facility throughput and initial capex improved plant reliability to meet customer demand.

Completed due diligence on two petroleum coke storage and vessel loading service providers in Colombia. Developed and negotiated service agreement terms with the selected service provider.

Due diligence and auditing responsibility for more than 20 third-party terminal/fleet service providers for Koch Minerals, including the energy industry, vessel to vessel transfer facilities and shore-based export operations.

Developed capital and operating cost estimates for a green field sulfur pelletizing facility in Edmonton, Alberta.

Koch Carbon, LLC, Long Beach, CA

WEST COAST MANAGER 2004 - 2012

Operations lead for bulk handling export facilities located on the US West Coast. Spearheaded union labor and lease negotiations, truck and OGV logistics, customer supply contracts and continuous improvement on compliance, maintaining positive KPI’s by infusing proactive culture with leadership and staff.

Leader on a $30 million EPC storage and export project in Pittsburg, CA. Project completed ahead of schedule and within budget. Developed building design, operating plan, selected equipment and recruited manpower for this new business.

Achieved California OSHA Voluntary Protection Program Star Status at two export terminals in 2007 and 2009, improving workforce cultures and process safety infrastructure “above and beyond” normal regulatory compliance requirements.

Developed water treatment process controls for process water from handling and storage of petroleum coke.

Accountable for the bulk handling export facilities at both The Port of Los Angeles and The Port of Long Beach. Operations lead on lease negotiations, union labor agreements and truck transportation.

Decommissioned a petroleum coke storage pad in the Port of Los Angeles.

Developed a new sulfur customer in Long Beach, increasing annual volumes by 20%.

Plant manager for all labor, maintenance, safety and environmental policies, projects and export fleet logistics at the KCBX terminal in Long Beach, CA. Responsible for weekly scheduling of labor and reliability projects, coordinated with production demand.

Managed design changes utilizing mechanical engineering skills on equipment to eliminate mechanical and product flow problems, increasing production efficiencies by over 35%.

Improved transmission system on a 400 HP conveyor, improving vessel loading efficiency by over 10%.
