Work Experience

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER DEAKO OCTOBER 2018 TO PRESENT

Position – Worked as an Electronics Engineer and as the team lead for a Seattle-based smart-home technology company, Deako.

Team Lead – This required me to have excellent communication skills because I had to report back to the company the progress that my group had made each week. It also required organizational and time-management skills in order to schedule meetings with the company, as well as weekly goals to present for the following week’s meeting. My job also involved strict documentation. This included everything from weekly status updates in the form of a PowerPoint, to Gantt Charts, to Design Specs and Test Plans. Due to the small adjustments, modifications, or new discoveries that occurred as the project advanced, each document went through several revisions throughout the duration of the project, refining it into a finalized version by the time the project was complete. I was also responsible for budgeting; the company gave me its list of requirements, such as acceptable size to work with, price goal range, and compatibility with the purpose we need it for, and I chose the best components that satisfied all the parameters in the most even distribution. For Deako’s Smart Light project, the final product needed to be within the budget of $3-5 (excluding the cost of the chip itself) and fit into the allotted space of 2”x2”x1”. The ESP32-WROOM chip satisfied all of these requirements, which is why I chose to use it for this project.

General project details – Worked extensively in Linux with the ESP32-WROOM chip to gather channel state information (CSI) data through Wi-Fi signals in the home, and using that data to create a neural network using TensorFlow. From there, the data could be mapped to specific user profiles using different filtering and other digital signal processing techniques.

SCHEDULING ANOTHER OPTION, INC. JUNE 2014-AUGUST 2015

Computer proficiency – Archived legal documents and business records for the company.

Communication skills – This position required advanced communication skills to create an open channel

between clients, their government-granted representatives, and the employing company.

PERSONAL PROJECTS

4x4x4 Arduino-controlled LED cube – I soldered 64 LEDs to create a three-dimensional matrix cube composed of four aisles, each with four LEDs per row and four LEDs per column. It uses digital multiplexing via an Arduino sketch to light up the LEDs in specific patterns that will loop continually. A demonstration can be seen here: https://youtu.be/pcr5RvX3CPI

IR remote/Arduino-controlled 350-length LED strip – I used the Arduino IDE serial window to get the hex codes of an IR remote and programmed a 350-length RGB LED strip to display an array of different color-coded patterns depending on the hex code input from the remote, connecting the strip and remote through the Arduino. A demonstration can be seen here: https://youtu.be/81ubMb5gfxE

Servo-controlled automatic heating blanket controller – I wrote an Arduino sketch that controls an artificial finger using a micro servo to automatically turn my heating blanket back on after the pre-installed automatic off-timer has turned it off.

The experience from working on personal projects, projects with companies, and University lab assignments, has allowed me to become proficient at using lab equipment, e.g. oscilloscopes, function generators, soldering stations, etc. and I’ve become accustomed to recording all test procedures, calculations, and results in a scientific notebook that meets engineering standards.
