Emergency Department, UNC REX Hospital, Raleigh, NC NCSU Senior Design Project August 2017 – May 2018
Operated on a team of five Biomedical Engineers to ascertain a problem in the hospital setting and develop a medical device solution. Interviewed and shadowed medical professionals, including microbiologists, nurses, and the Infection Prevention Manager.
Applied knowledge of engineering methods, medical practices, and scientific concepts to propose a solution. Developed a design layout and 3-D models, created design history files, and followed design controls and file naming conventions.
Used statistical software to perform process capability analyses on hypothetical data. Tested a device prototype and used problem solving skills to refine the solution. Project culminated in development of a looks-like prototype and a successful live presentation to UNC REX board members and staff.
