GROUND VIBRATION GENERATED BY HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY OVER SOFT SOIL IIT Roorkee 1st May 2018
– Ongoing
The increased speeds of modern trains are normally accompanied with increased transient vibration of rail over the ground. This happens especially high when train speed approaches to some threshold velocity of the soil at that site. This results in a large vertical vibration of the rail-ground system. The speeds of trains resulting in excessive vertical vibration depend upon Rayleigh wave velocity of site soil, the distance between bogies, axle loads and speed of the train. To study the effects of high train speed on the track centre line and site soil, 2D and 3D simulation were done with different loading patterns in each case. Some new ideas of vibration control will be tried to find in coming times. SOIL STABILIZATION USING PLASTIC The University of Burdwan 1st Dec 2016 - 1st May 2017 The work describes the suitability of the polythene waste to be used in the construction in order to minimize the amount of waste to be disposed to the environment. Plastic would lower the construction cost by reducing the amount of soil for compaction purpose. So the benefits are a lower environmental impact, up-gradation of soil, the economy of a project. Firstly several engineering laboratory tests were conducted to study the behaviour of soft soil. Then the different percentage of shredded plastic was mixed with the soil and changes in properties of soft soil were observed. OTHER ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS
