Resume:

BIRAJ BHANDARI

903-***-**** *****.********@*******.***

As a motivated engineer with experience in design and quality control, I have been fortunate to work in the field of 3D CAD Modeling, CAE analysis, numerical modeling, R&D, manufacturing and quality. I have found my niche in product design, process improvement, and development of smart, connected products encompassing interdisciplinary engineering approach.

Technical Skills

New product development, Product Life Cycle Management (PLM), cost estimation in ETO manufacturing, ERP, risk analysis

Manufacturing process controls, product & process improvement, project management, BOM, CAM and CNC programming

Proficient in GD&T and lean six sigma tools like SPC, DFMEA, 5Why's, 8D, DOE, ANOVA, CAPA, Gage R&R, etc.

MCU Programming, PCB design, electronics cooling, Wi-Fi development (using ESP8266 and particle photon)

AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SW Simulation, Star-CCM+, ANSYS, MATLAB, Minitab, LabVIEW, Arduino IDE, C++, MS Office

EDUCATION

The University of Texas at Tyler, Tyler, TX

Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (GPA 3.75) Aug 2017

Dehradun Institute of Technology, Dehradun, India

Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering (GPA 3.85) July 2014

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

PRO Hydronic Specialties, Henderson, TX

Quality Control/Design Engineer Feb 2018 - Present

Performed CFD, FEA, and multi-phase simulations in the design and development of manual balancing valves, hose fittings, air separators and carbon steel products using SolidWorks, SW simulation package and Star-CCM+.

Performed partitioned one-way FSI simulation to improve the design of automatic flow limiting cartridge, reduced the start-up pressure drop to below 3 psi, thereby reducing the energy costs of pumping for building owners.

Determined root causes of failure in automatic, manual balancing valves and other products and implemented DFMEA, DOE and other statistical tools during the stages of design and process improvement.

Developed digital flow meter, electronic pressure independent valve, BTU meter and energy valve from conceptual design, micro-controller programming, PCB design, prototype development, enclosure design to testing and final product.

Reduced the CNC machining cycle time by improving designs, improved destructive and non-destructive testing processes, developed documentations like quality control manual and manufacturer's data sheet.

The University of Texas at Tyler, Tyler, TX

Graduate Teaching/ Research Assistant Sep 2015 - Aug 2017

Delivered lectures on Thermodynamics I and II, Heat transfer, Thermal/fluid systems and ME Lab I & II.

Determined an optimum plate-to-plate pitch that maximizes the heat transfer rate in heat sinks used in the electronic cooling.

Researched on disaggregation of residential energy consumption using signal processing, multivariate analysis and machine learning techniques.

MECH Engineering and Trading Pvt Ltd, Kathmandu, Nepal

Design/ Installation Engineer Nov 2014–July 2015

Design development, assessing feasibility of automatic doors and gates, LED display boards, electric silk spinning wheels, electro-mechanical accessories and specifying modifications when necessary.

Modeling of automatic gates and sliding doors and performed dynamic analysis of whole hardware circuit based on uniform stress distribution using SolidWorks Simulation.

Testing and maintaining equipment, confirming with engineering specifications and relevant safety standards.

SMEC International, Kathmandu, Nepal

Mechanical Engineering Intern Mar 2014–July 2014

Design review of hydraulic steel structures like gates, trash racks and stop logs.

Design review of overhead cranes, lifting systems, railings, and fall protection systems in adherence with ANSI Z359 standards.

ABOUT ME

I am very passionate about DIY and IoT. I am actively involved at Tyler Innovation Pipeline, a local makerspace for 3D printing, Laser Cutting and CNC machining. I enjoy working with Arduino and Particle products on home automation and innovative consumer products. When I am not working, I like to paint, garden, play soccer, watch TED talks, movies, read books and hang out with friends. I believe that expertise in engineering opens a realm of art and I urge to experience that as I learn and grow.
