RE: Chemical Dependency Therapy Assistant position
To Whom It May Concern,
I am seeking a position as Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant and I believe I possess the appropriate skills and experience that would make a valuable addition to your organization. I am in successful long-term recovery from alcohol abuse and with my experience in education, advising, and counseling, and having been through the process of recovery, I have decided to direct my professional aspirations toward counseling individuals in recovery. To this end, I have earned my Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) license from the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.
In addition to my CDCA credential, I have had an extensive career in health care and education. I am a retired Associate Professor from Lorain County Community College with extensive teaching and administrative experience, At the College, I was Professor and Program Director of the Associate Degree Clinical Laboratory Science Technology Program. I have earned a Baccalaureate Degree of Science from Cleveland State University and a Master's Degree in Education from Ashland University. In addition to my primary role as teacher and administrator, my work experience as a professor included extensive personal interaction with my students providing counseling and mentorship in many areas of life not limited to their education, including interpersonal relationships, substance use and abuse, physically and mentally abusive relationships, life goals, and mental health. Prior to teaching at LCCC, I also had substantial work experience in health care in hospital laboratories as a laboratory assistant director. Responsibilities here included overseeing a staff of over 40 employees including all personnel (hiring and firing) decisions, employee counseling, staff scheduling, performance evaluation, and maintaining an operational budget of approximately $500,000. My experience also includes competency in basic computer and internet skills. I feel that my background positions me well to function in the oversight of and interaction with clients in the process of recovery.
My entire professional life has required maintaining effective interpersonal relations. As a college faculty member, along with experience in hospital laboratory management, I have developed a strong ability for working with others collaboratively informally and on committees for the achievement of larger goals.
With my background and experiences in education, health care. recovery, and administration, I feel I am well acclimated to an educational and counseling environment, which along with my personal qualities will allow me to contribute to an organization’s Chemical Dependency Recovery mission, and I would be honored to serve as a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant. I appreciate your consideration for a position and I look forward to taking the next steps toward this opportunity.
Sincerely,
James Daly
