Extensive experience as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner/Certified Diabetes Educator in Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. Saw patients with new onset Type 1, Type 2 diabetes, as well as Medication Induced Diabetes and MODY. In addition, I also followed patients with short stature and growth hormone deficiency and hypo/hyperthyroidism. Patients were seen for Diabetes Education both as new onset patients and for ongoing education. Histories and physical examinations were performed on the above patients, as well as prescribing medications for both diabetes and endocrine conditions. Responsible for obtaining the American Diabetes Association Standards of Recognition for Diabetes Self-Management Education Program. Developed a Diabetes Education Manual for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Initiated an Insulin Pump Program and later, started patients on Continuous Glucose Monitoring, as well as, helping patients to interpret data and make changes to their diabetes management. Participated in educating hospital staff nurses regarding changes in the management of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Involved in other projects, such as the Harlem Community Festival, which assisted families to learn how to prevent obesity and the risks for Type 2 diabetes; The Northeast Harlem School Health Project for children with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes which allowed me to educate school nurses about both conditions. I was also a clinical research coordinator and was involved with clinical research trials for both diabetes and endocrinology.
