I worked as an Economist in the Economic Analysis Unit. I was responsible for various economic analyses, especially cost-benefit analyses required by the Treasury Board of Canada for the Species at Risk Act (SARA). Main duties:

• I prepared multiple economic analyses and reports about different fish species that were used in the available on the DFO website Integrated Fish Management Program.

• I delivered various socio-economic analyses in fisheries like cost-benefit analyses required under the Species at Risk Act (for low impact species).

• I gathered and cleaned the necessary data: landings (volume) and pricing.

• I cooperated in intra-governmental groups: Transport Canada, Natural Resources Canada, and Parks Canada.

I pursued doctoral studies and worked as a researcher and teaching assistant. My dissertation title is: “Terroir and reputation: the economics of the British Columbia wine industry in three essays.”

• I researched the British Columbia wine industry and wrote a doctoral dissertation:

• " Terroir and Reputation: The Economics of British Columbia Wine Industry in Three Essays." In my dissertation, I pursued research on the formation of wine prices in British Columbia, Canada. I analyzed what was the role of collective reputation (BC VQA) and terroir in wine pricing and wine sales.

• I analyzed panel data of wine sales in British Columbia (scanner data from the British Columbia Liquor Distribution Branch for years 2011-2015(all monthly sales in the BC province).

• I used 3-stage endogenous dummy variable model (based on Woolridge (2002), "Econometric Analysis of Cross Section and Panel Data

• I collected vineyards' data (location and agronomic data) in the Okanagan Valley (from winemakers).

• I used Google Earth Pro Software to narrow down vineyards' GIS elements necessary for my analysis.

• I cooperated with the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Summerland to gain industry insights and initial guidance.

• I researched the Canadian wine industry, including wine industry in British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia as well as national and provincial level policies.

I prepared multiple reports and forecasting models. The work was pursued for the Euromonitor’s regional office in Chicago, US.

Cambridge Resources International, Ethiopia, Addis Ababa Cost-benefit Analyst

June 2012- April 2013

I was a member of a consulting team that evaluated several agricultural value chains in Ethiopia and suggested where the interventions should be made. These were long-term and multi-million development projects. I actively participated in the development of the following cost-benefit analyses: honey, vegetables, pulses, livestock, dairy. These cost-benefit analyses were used as a basis of implementation of the following interventions: GRAD, LGP, AMDE, PRIME financed by the USAID Mission Ethiopia and implemented by CARE, SNV, Mercy Corps and ACDI- VOCA.

Main duties:

• I pursued interviews with small-scale farmers in Amhara, Oromia, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region (SNPPR), and Tigray.

• I pursued interviews with the representatives of the Ethiopian government and industry.

• I interviewed various NGOs and small-scale business owners.

• I gathered the necessary data from the Ethiopian statistical office.

• I actively participated in the development of cost-benefit analyses (models) and drafted final reports for each value chain.

• I delivered final PowerPoint presentations with results to the USAID Mission Ethiopia senior managers.

Innovations for Poverty Actions (IPA /JPAL Paraguay), Paraguay, Asuncion Economic Analyst

January 2012-May 2012

I worked as a part of the team of researchers that performed the implementation and an initial analysis of a baseline study called the "Big Math Paraguay." The research was pursued in 295 primary schools in the region of Cordillera (Paraguay). The idea for this project was developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Poverty Lab and IPA Paraguay, with the cooperation of the Government of Paraguay and Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID). The methodology was based on the idea of Randomized Control Trails in social sciences. Main duties:

• I helped in the development of a baseline survey for preschool children, teachers, school directors, and parents.

• I helped in the training and monitoring of progress of survey implementers (38 Paraguayans who agreed to be trained in physical delivery of this survey).

• I helped run the office and manage the budget.

I pursued research on Producer Support Estimates (OECD's methodology). I wrote a policy paper: “Converging but Not Common. Measurement, Equity and Policy Decoupling Issues Across EU CAP Members. Producer Support Estimates (PSE) for Selected Commodities in Poland and Spain."

Main duties:

• I collected data necessary for estimations of Producer Support Estimates (PSE). The collection of this data included official contacts with statistical offices in Poland and Spain.

• I researched rules of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in the European Union and their meaning for Poland and Spain.

• I calculated PSEs for the following commodities in Poland and Spain: milk, potatoes, rapeseed, tomatoes, wheat.

• I wrote a policy-relevant paper based on the PSE estimates and background research. The paper was used as a research basis by the AAFC Strategic Policy Branch.
