SUMMARY

• Developed a software for measuring bio-statistics of blood flow in the carotid artery for CW Doppler ultrasound. Signal processing tools were developed using Matlab and implemented in a real-time control loop using LabVIEW

• MASc in Mechanical engineering with a focus on modeling noise and artifacts in Doppler ultrasound signals to aid in diagnosing cardiovascular diseases. The end result will be used as part of an adaptive control system to correct Doppler ultrasound signals for better medical diagnosis.

• Developed a data-mining algorithm, within 24 hours, extracting figure URLs, captions and descriptions from PubMed papers using a keyword search algorithm, after 3 weeks of learning Python.

• Developed a controller for an adaptive tourniquet cuff system to increase patient safety during orthopedic surgeries. Signal processing tools were developed using Matlab and implemented in a real-time control system using LabVIEW.

• Designed and built a ventilation chamber allowing the controlled respiration of sheep lungs through a Visual C interface where the chamber stats and lungs' stats were presented.

• Designed a hands-free user interface controlling an ultrasound machine through voice commands and eye- tracking, aiding in robot-assisted surgeries, using a C++ framework. TECHNICAL SKILLS

TECHNICAL WORK EXPERIENCE

Flosonics Medical

Ultrasound Engineer

March, 2018 – November, 2018

• Designed, fabricated and tested ultrasound transducers at the Sunnybrook Research Institute, utilizing equipment including a water-tank with a 2mm steel-ball reflector for performance testing and evaluation.

• Developed an algorithm for measuring statistics including peak and mean flow in the common carotid artery based on a proposed method by Kathpalia et al, 2016, using Matlab.

• Designed and implemented a control loop to process real-time data collected from transducer units via a USB NI- DAQ, using LabVIEW.

University of Toronto

Research Assistant

September, 2015 - 2017

• Developed an algorithm for visualizing Doppler ultrasound Spectrograms, using Matlab.

• Composed a thesis showing how internal artifacts in Doppler ultrasound systems affect the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease and presented a solution of how it could be addressed. St. Paul’s Hospital

Assistant Engineer

January, 2014 – June, 2014

• Researched devices including servo motors and linear actuators to develop a ventilation chamber for sheep lungs.

• Consulted with manufacturers about design specs for the chamber to control breathing patterns for the lungs.

• Troubleshot individual parts through designing simple circuits to probe and verify readings from datasheets.

• Repurposed API program to control the Ventilation Chamber and output data onto a Graphical User Interface, using Visual C.

University of British Columbia

Researcher and Programmer at Robotics and Control Laboratory April, 2013 – August, 2013

• Created a user interface program controlling an ultrasound system by voice recognition and eye-gaze tracking in C++, aiding in Robotic-assisted surgery.

• Integrated ultrasound functions and real-time ultrasound images from an ultrasound device with the user interface.

• Configured an Eye-tracker camera to permit the user's eye-gaze to control the position of the cursor on the screen.

• Integrated Microsoft SAPI’s voice recognition properties with commands, controlling the ultrasound system.

• Permitted users to control regions within the ultrasound images by enlarging portions of the image based on their eye-gaze.

• Authored a technical report summarizing the development process of the user interface program, and a short user manual detailing a step-by-step process on using the program. TECHNICAL PROJECTS

Data-mining algorithm May, 2017 – Present

• Taught myself to code in Python, within 3 weeks, to port a Matlab simulation for my Master's thesis.

• Developed a data-mining algorithm, within 24 hours, that extracts figure URLs, captions and descriptions from PubMed papers.

• Implemented keyword search algorithm to compare figure captions with descriptions and display data on a website.

• Optimizing bottlenecks of algorithm to analyze more PubMed papers in less time. Personalized Tourniquet system for surgery September, 2014 – April 2015

• Developed a controller for a tourniquet cuff system to monitor a patient’s Limb Occlusion Pressure. The tourniquet raises and lowers this pressure depending on the patient’s physiological status.

• Designed and implemented a Match Filtering algorithm that yields the input signal to the controller, using Matlab.

• Designed and implemented a feedback control loop to control the Limb Occlusion Pressure to increase/decrease if there is a change in the patient's blood pressure, using LabVIEW. EDUCATION
