Quality Engineer
I am a quality driven individual who enjoys working with other driven individuals. I have more than 27 years of experience in the Quality Assurance Engineering arena. My earliest work in quality assurance began in the laboratory environment with Columbia Nitrogen a manufacturer of fertilizers and raw materials used in the carpet industry performing titrations, visual color testing and gravimetric analyses for in-process and final product testing.
After this I obtained a position in the laboratory at NutraSweet Corporation. I worked in the laboratory environment for 2 years, performing HPLC, GC, visual analysis, and minor maintenance on subject equipment.
While at Nutrasweet, I was contacted by SRS to work in the production laboratories. I worked through the SRS training process but was offered a position in Naval Fuels performing accountability of fuel materials before working in the laboratory facility. I served in this capacity for about a year before the project was closed. Since that time I served as a Liquid Waste Technician in the High Level Waste facilities for a year at which time II was promoted to High Level Waste Quality Engineering. After joining the High Level Waste Facilities as a QE, I worked in conjunction with Engineering and Operations personnel and provided direction to QC personnel supporting the safe operation and maintenance of these various facilities. I was fortunate to work in all HLW facilities. I received the training to become a Lead Auditor, but never received certification, having participated in audits of the High Level Waste Facilities at Savannah River Remediation (SRR). I was fortunate to move in the Quality Assurance group working to support all of the HLW facilities. In 2004 Washington Savannah River Co experienced a reduction in force at which time I was given the opportunity to work in facility demolition, which I worked for four years. During that time I learned much about destructing nuclear facilities as well as operating warehouse and industrial grade forklifts. I was tasked with loading full shipping containers on trucks for disposal.
In 2008, I was fortunate to obtain a position in HLW Engineering, supporting the inventory of structures and components located in various buildings in the DWPF facilities and elsewhere on SRS. During my two year tenure there I supported the various facilities Engineering personnel with following up on securing replacement components for the various SSCs in the facility. While working in this position, I was offered a position returning to the HLW QA group as a Senior QA Engineer A supporting the Salt Waste Facilities in the construction of new Salt Disposal Units that were designed to consolidate existing nuclear waste materials.
I began my career with SRS in September 1988 and worked there until September 2013. I worked safely at SRS for 25 years. I was retired in September 2013 due to a reduction in the workforce at SRS in 2013,
I was unemployed until July 2014 at which time I was hired by Chicago Bridge & Iron (CB&I) to work at Plant Vogtle Nuclear Power Plant as an Inspection Planner reviewing and revising construction documents that direct the construction activities overseen by QC personnel in the construction of various reactor related facilities. Unfortunately, after Fluor Corporation took over from CB&I in 2016 there was a reduction in force in February 2017 at which time I was released from employment.
Since being released from Plant Vogtle, I have been steadily reviewing work postings in the Aiken - Augusta area, applying for positions related to the Quality Engineering arena. Also during this unemployment time, I took the initiative to successfully complete an OSHA 30 Construction Safety Training course on-line as an opportunity to bolster my resume.
After being riffed at Plant Vogtle, I was unemployed from Feb 2017 until Nov 2017 at which time I was hired by Akima Global Services to perform QC oversight on maintenance repairs and project work. My expectation from the pre-hire interview was that I would spend more than 60% of my day performing QC oversight and 40% recording the results of my field activities. After six months I found myself doing more desk work than field oversight. I need to be used more in the field activity arena performing Quality Engineering oversight of maintenance work activities, providing support to Construction leads and providing input to corrective measures helping to resolve quality related issues as needed. I found it necessary to resign my position due to circumstances beyond my control.
I look forward to the opportunity to discuss your position and how my work experience would make me a good fit to your Quality Assurance team.
Best regards,
