Experience

CASHIER/BUSSER/ STOCKER ARAMARK 2018

I was working in California on a J1 Visa for the summer 2018 at Yosemite National Park. I was employed by Aramark as a Cashier. My job included cashiering, bussing and stocking and, I thoroughly enjoyed the work which was constantly demanding and gave me an opportunity to explore and photograph some wonderful wildlife and landscapes in this beautiful part of the world. I was exposed to numerous and diverse cultures and learned so much from meeting guests from all over the world. I received cashier, stocking, bussing and tipping training throughout the summer. I received compliments from both guests and managers for my customer service and the job itself.

The experience was not without challenges as the Park was a subject to unpredicted forest fires which we all ended up been evacuation from the Park in late July. I had to fend for myself make my way to family and friends in Southern California and organize a fallback job in the event of the Park not reopening. I enjoyed the challenges and secured a waitress position in San Diego. In event, the Park reopened, and I made my way back. It encouraged me to continue with my travel and gave me confidence in facing challenges away from home.

For a few days in the month of November 2018, I got to shadow Alan Butler who is a camera man that works on the set of Vikings (2013) in Ashford Studios in Wickow. I shadowed him as they filmed for Vikings, I got to get a taste of being on a real set helping and overserving how they set up a scene, camera work, the equipment, lighting, sound, and how they prepare for scenes one after another.

SHADOWING BBC STUDIOS 2016

As a first-year student in Digital Media & Design course, I was keen to get a hands-on insight into the world of TV and got the agreement of Joe McCusker, Senior Sports Documentary Producer, BBC and who hails from my home county of Donegal to allow me to shadow her and her film producer partner.
