Application Engineer

Responsible for identifying customer needs, developing designs, and supporting rapid prototyping and manufacturing for life sciences, medical devices, IVD including microfluidics and other biotech customers for entire West Coast Region.

Managed, cultivate, and expand projects with new and existing customers. With a strong emphasis on working with R&D teams to identify their technical plastic consumable needs.

Provided customers with design for manufacturing (DFM) assistance; which included tooling and material selection, per ISO 13485 and/or ISO 14971 requirements.

Worked with customer on design of injection mold; including gate and ejector pin location. Using Solidworks; establish initial cavity and core layout including, if required multi-cavity design.

Provided tooling engineers with preliminary mold design; worked internally with engineers to establish proper cooling line locations and cavity design for proper material flow.

Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsible for the design, analysis, and documentation of all light pipe/guide and panel mount indicators. Utilizing SolidWorks for all new product design as well required changes to existing designs. Industries included, consumer electronics, aerospace, and medical device companies.

Expert in company’s light modeling software tool. This was used to incorporate angle of refraction and reduction in light calculations used for simulation and verification of custom light pipe designs; provided customers with in-depth, detailed reports, specifying all statistical data, indicating illumination output of design.

Managed cross functional teams along with; out sourced engineering firm(s) when work load required. This included timeline, component selection, and approval, budgetary and quality of 3D CAD part and assembly models, Bill of Materials (BOM), along with 2D drawing review and approval.

Engineered optical test fixture to verify laser beam efficiency; utilizing NX (Unigraphics) 3D CAD software as well as TeamCenter PLM for model and drawing release.

Designed equipment mount to hold an internal spatial filter used to test the focal point of the high-powered laser.

Project engineer, accountable for the design of new silicon rubber keypad from concept to production, met all production qualification standards within required deadline and budget.

Project lead responsible for instituting design changes on mock-up phone, which resulted in savings of 25% per phone, for a total company savings of over $100,000 dollars.

Led the development and qualification of plastic casing to encompass battery packs within required budget and deadline, including qualification of injection molding tool.

Led implementation of design improvements and conducted needed qualifications of a new battery supplier, resulting in an overall cost savings of 30% per battery pack.
