When I started as cardiology Cath Lab supervisor at Florida Hospital South in Orlando, our caseload was relatively light at three to four cases per weekend. After a year or two, with significant change management styles, the numbers increased to about 25+ cases on Saturday, and 25+ cases on Sunday. The servicing area was expanded to include Tampa to Titusville and Ocala to Okeechobee. We made extensive use of the helicopter and served over 150 Florida Hospital cardiologists and their referring physicians. During the week I would work extra in the Cardiac Cath Lab at Florida Hospital South, Florida Hospital Waterman, Kissimmee, and in the emergency room at Florida Hospital in Orange City. I continued to work this workload for about 13 years. While also working I completed my Masters Degree in Nursing, as an ARNP.

For the next ten years I went to work as an ARNP for a large cardiology group, Florida Cardiology, both in the office and hospital. This included cardiac and internal medicine patients with a focus on interventional and diagnostic cardiology, optimization of heart failure patients, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and much more. Services included making hospital rounds, new consults, admissions, discharges, overseeing Nuclear Stress Tests, Treadmill Stress Test, Code Stemi call, and much more. In the office this included new consults, follow-up office visits, Coumadin Clinic, Lipid Clinic, overseeing PET Stress Tests, Nuclear Stress Tests, Treadmill Stress Tests, External Counter Pulsation Therapy, and much more.
In addition to working for Florida Cardiology, I was an ARNP clinical preceptor for the following universities: University of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, and Florida State University. This included Interventional and Diagnostic Cardiology and Internal Medicine. Other activities included Speaking and Lecturing for the following companies, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Abbott Pharmaceuticals, Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals, Merck-Shering-Plough Pharmaceuticals, and Athrotech Advanced Lipid Labs.
The next step was to work in the Chest Pain Center at Florida Hospital South. The shift was 12-14 hours every night for seven days on and seven days off. This entailed Interventional and Diagnostic Cardiology and Internal Medicine. After two years of going back and forth from nights to days, a change was in order.
Next I did a one month observation at Tampa General Hospital Cardiac Transplant team. Then I assisted Florida Emergency Physicians attain a Chest Pain Contract with Florida Hospital Winter Park. After that success I turned my focus to Florida Heart and Vascular in Leesburg and the Villages but, very long hours and driving 35K miles a year made home life impossible.
I interviewed with Dr. Rush in December and began the credentialing process for the Orlando VA Medical Center Hospitalists section. After working for a month there was a dynamic shift and a few Physicians and a Nurse Practitioner left and a few joined . I filled the need in the DOM . After working there for a few months a need came open in the Cardiac Section. As I looked at the names of the Cardiologists on Staff I have worked very closely with more than half of them, Dr. Mark Milunski MD FACC, Dr. Amr Morsi MD FACC, Dr. Glenn Harris DO. FACC, when at Florida Hospital. Also I had Known and Mrs. Kimberly Hansen ARNP, Mr. Richard Amason ARNP. I Continue to help those who have served.
