Performed many ISO or ASTM mechanical tests on various composite materials
Research & Development on many new composite materials: Created via extrusion, vacuum infusion, injection moulding, and other techniques
Help to maintain the lab’s AALA accreditation via regular internal and external audits
Learned and implemented 10 new mechanical tests, wrote new work instructions for co-workers to follow, and got these tests added to our list of accredited ISO & ASTM tests
Took a short class on failure analysis then used 3D and optical microscopes to probe mechanical test pieces tested to failure
Performed other tests including: DSC, DMTA, TGA, Uv/Vis & IR spectroscopy, particle sizing, ballistics, and compositional analysis of composites.
Helped the mechanical and chemical engineers with calculations to determine compressive, tensile, or flexural strengths, modulus, stresses, strains, elongations et cetera.
Found new ways to produce higher numbers of testing samples in less time
Became the resident expert with the OMAX waterjet cutting machine and the CAD programs we used to make test parts and mechanical parts for our nearby fiberglass plant
