PROFESSIONAL HIGHLIGHT

Broad experience in polymer application and products research and development, especially in the fields of coatings, adhesives and elastomers.

Hand-on skills in formulation, instrumental analysis, production pilot and process trouble shooting.

Involved in project management and laboratory supervision.

Familiar with ISO certified and FDA regulated GMP/ GLP environments through working either as a team member or independently.

WORKING EXPERIENCE

09/2007 04/2018 Sr. Chemist

Royal Adhesives and Sealants, Wayne Division, NJ

Formulated various solvent-borne and water-borne adhesives and coatings used in aerospace, marine, packaging, automobile, construction and etc.

Developed adhesives including both contact type (cold bonding) and pressure sensitive ones. Most solvent-borne adhesives are rubber based. They are NR, CR, NBR and CSM etc. Water-borne ones are mostly with emulsions and dispersions of Acrylic, PU, SBR and Chloroprene.

Involved project management including lab supervision, budgeting, scheduling, material and equipment sourcing and vender evaluation etc.

Cooperate with production, QC and customer services in process scale up and trouble shooting.

03/2003 – 08/2006 Chemist (Contracted)

Worldwide Service of Analytical Science, Schering-Plough Corporation, Union, NJ

Assisted API analysis, characterize and validation with instruments like HPLC, GC,FTIR, and many wet chemical test methods as well.

Pharmaceutical reference standards in-house storage, dispensing, and certification.

05/2000 – 11/2002 Process Engineer (for technical services)

Nitta Casings Inc., Somerville, NJ

Provided process trouble-shooting to support large scale biodegradable collagen casing manufacture.

Conducted process investigation independently, including sample collection, treatment, analysis and results reporting.

Cooperated R&D in rheology study, reformulation and process modification.

Forecasted process trends through monitoring and statistically analyzing process data for supporting managements in production control.

Provided liaison among R&D, marketing and customer services.

Associated with venders to ensure qualified raw materials supplied.

06/1995 – 05/2000 Chemist and lab Supervisor

EGL Inc., Berkeley Heights, NJ

Accomplished developing water-borne coatings, a high-solid dispersion of florescence powders to replace traditional solvent-borne coatings for neon and florescence lights manufacture. All R&D activities were conducted independently from initial concepts to final productions. The successful achievement saved company at least 35% annual costs in raw material, labor and environmental treatment.

Assisted lab management through supervision, training, SOP writing, project reporting and etc.

03/1993 – 06/1995 R&D Chemist

HARDMAN, a Division of Harcros Chemicals, Inc. Belleville, NJ

Conducted formulation and process development for epoxy and urethane based high-performance thermosetting adhesives and sealants used as laminating, packaging and encapsulation materials for electronics, medical devices, automobile and many other industries.

Involved synthesis and characterization of new urethane pre-polymers, and PU/Epoxy IPN ( inter penetration network).

Performed material property tests and composition analysis by using GC, GPC, FTIR, TGA, DSC, INSTRON and many wet chemical testing methods.

03/1983 – 10/1989 Chemical Engineer

Shanghai Rubber Product Research Institute, China

Developed formulations and processes for various molding and extruding rubber products with NR, CR, NBR, SBR, EPDM, Si-Rubber, Polyurethane etc.

Studied on the effects of cross-linking density with different vulcanization systems and reinforcement mechanisms.

Studied on rubber / plastic commixing technologies for thermoplastic elastomers and polymer alloys.

Synthesized TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) as raw material to make catheters and many other medical devices.

Conducted project to make water-absorbent rubber as sealants for infrastructure uses.

EDUCATION
