Selected Accomplishments
Design work has powered toys, cameras, POS equipment, and copiers. Interface designs are some of the most robust in the POS world. VHDL logic design provides industry-leading thermal printing speed with low-cost embedded controller. Embedded systems and controller boards meet ITE Class B EMI as well as higher than CE mark immunity requirements for POS environments. EDA toolbox includes schematic entry through placement, routing, back-end and library management. DFM awareness enables board designs to fly through the fab house without schedule delays or cost increases. Communication with the entire team from Marketing to Manufacturing ensures the design meets everyone’s needs up front.
Dealing with agencies and compliance in EMC, EMI and Product Safety is familiar territory, from Consumer to ITE or whatever your agency requirements may be. Working on-site with OEM clients and their customers resolves EMC issues. US Passport is current, with China Visa. EXPERIENCE
Sr. Design Engineer in Commercial Electronics, Point of Sale printers, Cognitive-TPG (formerly Axiohm), Ithaca, NY 1997-2018
Axiohm emerged from 2001 Chapter 11 riding on innovative hardware designs for competitive, robust printer controllers.
Cost savings between $50k and $800k per year resulted from constant attention to market needs and available technology along with relentless pursuit of cost-effective designs. Randolph A. Bullock Page 2
As sole Electrical Engineer, consistent and dedicated hard work and innovation carried the future of the company for many years and still carries it even now with the recent addition of new talent.
Responsible for all aspects of electronic hardware design including feature enhancements, cost reductions, new products and EMC compliance, as well as EDA tool development.
Mentored newly hired EE’s in all aspects of Electronic design, EMC, EDA, and bench work relevant to the product needs.
Achieved major cost reductions ($300k/yr) and feature enhancements through redesign of FPGA and ASIC products using VHDL and simulation tools.
Paved new roads to growth in revenues and profits for CTPG by designing an industry-leading embedded controller with 6x processing speed at 23% lower material cost for the PWB, netting the company over $1M cost savings while providing compelling new functionality and speed that translates into higher margins or can be traded to win accounts with higher volumes.
Took an active role in EMI and EMC testing at private and OEM customer labs, which facilitated good results and saved considerable lab time and cost. A side benefit was learning how the standards are implemented and how various EMC labs operate. Sharing that expertise with other OEM customers has built considerable trust and good will and facilitated long term relations beneficial to the company in terms of current orders and winning new projects.
Release of product lines worth $20M and up has resulted from working on-site with OEM clients and successful technical negotiations. Other trips resulted in continuing and renewing of relations with multi-million-dollar accounts for this company with annual revenues of under $100M. Other former employers:
