To take responsibility for a caseload of serve users and their care.
In assisting the anaesthesia in setting up the various requirements in the type of anaesthesiology – local, regional or general.
Have the emergency crash cart set-up available, prepared and maintained all the time.
Maintain, troubleshoot and be prepared with the anaesthesia machine all the time.
Understand the pharmacology of various drugs used in anaesthesia including their side effects, toxicity, doses of administration, proper administration and proper utilization.
Know enough about infection control and self protection.
Care for the anaesthetized, unconscious, recovering patient and pickup warning signals clinically by observing the monitor and alert the physician/surgeon.
Provide ongoing care during the recovery phase at the recovery room from the technological point of view.
Know enough about ventilator management, setting, maintaining and weaning processes.
Interpret pulse oxymeter readings, perform blood gas analysis and interpret the same for consultation of experts.
Know all principles of safety of patients at every stage during transportation and in various positions.
Provide airway ventilation and CPR when necessary.
To develop clinical expertise, leadership and teaching skills through an evidence based approach to care delivery.

ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES PERFORMED
■ Prior to Anaesthesia – prepare equipment needed for the patients to safety undergo anaesthesia . This involves:
Checking and setting up anaesthesia machine
Preparing IV drugs
Preparing IV therapy administration equipment
Preparing a range of devices to maintain the patients airway Eg:LMA, ET-Tubes..
Communicating with the patient when they arrive into the OT
Establish peripheral IV access
Applying anaesthetic monitoring to help assess the patients condition whilst under anaesthesia. This may include EKG,BP,ETCO2&SPO2 devices.
■ During Anaesthesia:
Inducing and maintaining adequate anaesthesia
Establishing and securing an airway
Making sure that patients positioned in such a way NOT to cause discomfort or injury during their procedure.
Monitoring and maintaining patients vital signs and anaesthesia depth.
Collection and analysis of patients(blood)samples.
Acquiring and administering transfusion fluids and equipment.
■ After Anaesthesia – Assist the anaesthetist with:
Waking the patient
Removing airway devices
Transferring the patients to post-operative units
