PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Rent-A-Center: Oracle DBA – (April 2011 to Present)
Rent-A-Center is one of the biggest retailers for rent to own business, operating around 3000 stores. As DBA we are supporting lot of critical OLAP/OLTP enterprise databases.
Responsibilities included installing, upgrading, patching, tuning, monitoring and troubleshooting with large amounts of data and high transaction rates.
Implemented best practices for security, monitoring, and configuration.
Supported Database in Amazon Cloud (AWS)
Administration/BAU:-
Monitored disk spaces (track and trend space utilization) and Raid level recommendations.
Responsible for administering day to day operations of all Oracle databases including Exadata.
Provide User management, Space monitoring, Gather statistics, Performance monitoring, tuning, Alert Log monitoring and backup monitoring.
Providing on call support for all production environments including Exadata.
Participating in change management meetings to provide DBA input and represent the DBA team on all Operational Excellence / Stability calls,
Collaborate with App and other teams to implement changes and successfully completing Project task.
Setup ORACLE OEM Monitoring and use this as standard monitoring tool to monitor all the Databases.
Migrating/upgrade:-
Did POC (Exadata versus Fusion IO): Collaborated with vendor to perform various proof of concept to evaluate new products and features such as Oracle on Exadata versus Fusion IO.
Migrated Data Warehouse environment from HP UNIX platform to Oracle Linux with Fusion IO (Solid state) card used as storage.
Migrated Data Warehouse again to Nimble Storage from Fusion IO.
Successfully Migrated and upgraded database from 10g to 11gr2 using transportable table space, standby and Export/Import dumps. Minimized lot of downtime time to meet SLA.
Before migration and upgrade verified the impact of a database character set change via Csscan (Database character set scanner) and helped development team to fix the data.
Compliance/Security:-
Implemented Fine Grain (FGA) Auditing based on column and statement.
Setup Data Encryption over BD-link to secure data traveling over network through DB-link.
Applied both CPU patches (GRID and RDBMS) when appropriate.
Security Administration by Creation of Users, Managing their roles and privileges.
Performance/Troubleshooting:-
Doing DB code review and work with developers to provide them code enhancements, indexing the tables properly for better performance.
Lead initiative to implement best practice on AS-IS-database / new databases.
Performing troubleshooting and root cause analysis for critical production issues as well as for Exadata via AWR, ADDM, SQLT/SQLHC and ASH.
Tuned redolog files, Tablespaces, Datafiles, storage structures, rollback segments, Temporary segments, Indexes.
Troubleshot processes from start to finish by setting events 10046 and using TKPROF.
Monitoring CPU usage I/O contention memory paging on UNIX/LINUX server.
Identified locks, waits and maintained statistics of the database and tuned
Implemented procedures to strictly flow SDLC (Test and validate code in lower database, before implemented to PROD this initiative significantly reduced production issues and outages.
Implemented table partition for manageability and performance.
