Hendrickson Advanced Technology Group Romeoville, Illinois, USA 2012 – Present
Engineering Manager, Composites
•Led a team of 4 to develop the manufacturing process to produce fiber reinforced polymer leaf springs using filament winding and high pressure resin transfer molding (HPRTM) with performance exceeding existing industry components.
•Conceptualized and developed a polyurethane molding process to prototype elastomer components reducing lead time by 95% and prototype cost by 90%.
•Drafted $1.5M commercialization plan for filament winding of composite components including designing the work cell performing Value Stream analysis and working with suppliers to design and integrate the equipment.
•Developed and continuously updated lab test capabilities for components, systems, and materials totaling $1M in capital investments.
•Designed and implemented project work flow documentation for a non-production environment.
•Conceptualized and taught engineering co-op curriculum used for recruiting, development, and mentoring of prospective engineers.
•Managed validation lab equipment and personnel to support all development projects within the division and maintaining all equipment in the facility.
•Authored all training, safety and environmental policies, and maintenance documentation for the lab and office.
Hendrickson Auxiliary Axle Systems Hebron, Ohio, USA 2004 – 2012
Project Engineer – New Product Development Lead
•Managed development and launch efforts on multiple suspension systems and components driven by the annual operating plan bringing new innovative products to the market. Took all new products from initial concept through validation and launch.
•Led advanced product quality planning (APQP) meetings, coordinated in-house and outsourced part production. Collaborated with other departments to ensure program goals were defined and on-time.
•Managed all validation lab activity with 3 personnel issuing monthly reports tracking efficiency and identified and implemented improvements. Created a work flow process to prioritize lab tech work and allow rapid communication of updated department goals.
•Led efforts with Watson & Chalin suspensions to cross functionally resolve issues with backlogged orders, work order processing, engineering administrative processes, and sales order entry reducing backlogged orders from 3 months behind to current in 4 months.
•Developed low cost commodity products gaining $5M in additional annual sales leading to other incremental business with new customers.
•Led product development efforts as the primary engineering contact for a joint venture with Tata Motors (India) that would eventually become Hendrickson India Manufacturing. Worked directly with OEM supply chain managers in India to ensure all product development timing and performance requirements were met. Mentored engineers in India enabling them to function independently educating them on suspension design and performance.
•Created and implemented new work flow process to manage engineering change orders to track progress and issued monthly status reports.
•Trained of other engineers on finite element analysis (FEA) and data acquisition (DAQ).
•Worked directly with customers and end-users to resolve field issues.
•Performed duties as an ISO/QS auditor and assisted efforts to achieve/maintain TS16949 certification.
•Assisted the materials department in product use downs to achieve the division’s inventory goals.
