GOAL:

To partner with a residential construction company wherein the experience and expertise gained in a senior management position in the construction industry will bring twenty years of experience in remodeling and new home construction to the table and fifteen years of management experience and other valuable sought-after skills as described herein.

SKILLS AND SUCCESS:

Successfully managed fifteen superintendents in thirteen single-family subdivisions including but not limited to Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Union and Iredell Counties in North Carolina. Over two hundred homes were brought to completion on time and within budget annually.

Skillful working knowledge of and excellent expertise in using AutoCad Drafting Software which was employed in making changes to working drawings and blueprints.

Comfortable with 20/20 Cabinet Design Software and able to design aesthetically pleasing and functional kitchens, baths, libraries and media rooms using pre-fab and custom cabinet components. This software was used for over six years in my cabinet design/installation business herein described as Gibson Interiors.

Excellent working knowledge of Powerpoint Presentation software which has enabled the preparation of impressive program material for employee training as well as create a selling tool to assist and sell potential homeowners on changes and/or better ideas for designing and building a home. It has also proved to be a powerful tool in teaching superintendents and area managers how to manage and work with difficult home buyers successfully.

Excellent knowledge and use of Timberline Software.

Thorough understanding and working knowledge of the North Carolina Building Codes and OSHA regulations.

Passed State of North Carolina Contractor Exam as a qualifier under Niblock Homes license.

Outside sales position, wherein some of the jobs were cold call and some were from leads. Additionally, there were clients who called in and wanted to meet at the showroom to look at and choose stone for new construction as well as upgrade their home or business. This job was something pursued as a new experience on a trial basis. The background in construction was very helpful due to sometimes extenuating circumstances and/or revisions to plans or upgrades to existing properties.

Having never worked as a salesman, it did not take long to ascertain this was not what I wanted to do for my remaining career. Enjoyed the construction end of the business and was grateful for the education gained regarding the application and characteristics of marble, granite and other natural and manmade stone.

Due to the 2008 economic recession my position as a senior staffer with Niblock Homes was terminated to preserve the family-owned company and keep it afloat during and after the difficult years with the recession. A company which employed over one-hundred office and field personnel was reduced to about one-fourth of the original size to get through the crunch.

The day after the departure from Niblock, the Junior Partner offered their cabinet design, so the tools and equipment were purchased to begin working as an independent contractor. Became an equal partner and began doing kitchen design and cabinet installation as a subsidiary to wife’s interior design business. This included space planning, design, pricing, measuring, ordering and installation using components from Merillat Cabinetry.

The position kept me extremely busy installing during the day and on weekends on occasion and drawing in the evening, so unfortunately, I did not have time to court and pursue other contractors for gainful business, so when Niblock went in a different direction the cabinetry business of the company folded.

Began working with this family-owned partnership in an entry-level position as Punch Carpenter where I spent one year managing and performing warranty.

Became a Project Manager in 1990 building multiple homes in the $250,000-$350,000 range in Cabarrus, Union, Iredell and Mecklenburg Counties.

Promoted to Area Manager in 2000, wherein the primary duties were to manage multiple subdivisions and multiple superintendents for homes in the price range of $450,000 and up.

Promoted again in 2004 earning the title of Production Manager over the entire company. Duties were supervision of Niblock’s field employees and help superintendents and area managers with scheduling, solving problems, quality control and warranty.

Worked construction and learned from father-in-law and brother-in-law doing new home construction and remodeling older, antebellum homes. Learned to frame and to build quality homes from the ground up. The area gave very little opportunity for gainful employment sufficient to support a growing family, so the valuable guidance and instruction offered enabled ability to move forward in the construction industry.
