Thoracic surgery has been recently branched out from cardiothoracic surgery for training in India, and I am proud to be one of the first surgeons to be trained in core thoracic surgery. With developments in lung volume reduction surgery, transplantation for prevalent diseases like emphysema, COPD, etc, and limited surgeons doing these procedures in India, it has huge potential with an exciting future. I have completed specialty training in thoracic surgery at National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases (NITRD), New Delhi, India. NITRD is a central government institute affiliated to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) of India. NITRD is a tertiary referral hospital dealing with pulmonary tuberculosis, inflammatory lung diseases, and lung cancer.
During my training at NITRD in the new branch of thoracic surgery, I have performed and assisted major and minor thoracic surgical procedures as a senior resident surgeon. Our patients were mainly inflammatory lung diseases, sequelae of tuberculosis, lung cancer, and mediastinal masses. I have done decortications, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, bullectomies, lung biopsy, and few other procedures as the first surgeon. I also have keen interest in academics and research and wish to get involved in clinical research. My interests include inflammatory lung diseases, lung cancer, tracheal surgery, thymus and mediastinal tumors. I wish to pursue further practice and training in minimally invasive surgery, robotic thoracic surgery and lung transplantation.
