Summary: I have more than seven years experience in biomedical research, and I have a favorable single scoped background investigation (SSBI). I was a laboratory animal technician for more than 1 year. Presently, I have been a laboratory technician for more than two years. I am ALAT, LAT, and LATG certified. I received my master’s degree in environmental biology from Hood College.

Relevant Experience

Laboratory Technician

Basic Skills: Aseptic technique, micropipette, streak agar plates, make buffers.

Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC): Prepare antibiotics, prepare and inoculate 96 well plates, read plates.

Molecular Biological Techniques: Direct and indirect ELISA.

Bacteria: Bacillus anthracis, Yersinia pestis, Burkholderia mallei, Burkholderia pseudomallei, Francisella tularensis. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and other multiple drug resistant (MDR) bacteria.

Recordkeeping: Update biological select agents and toxins (BSAT) database. Maintain accurate records of experiments in a laboratory notebook. Maintain a Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) folder. Assist with converting laboratory and studies to well-documented and GLP.

Journal Article Preparation: Write papers for publication. Research journal articles, posters, and other information. Attend paper and publication meetings.

Safety and Health Compliance: Work in a BL3 and BL2 environment. Test eyewash and shower stations regularly. Use autoclave to sterilize bacteriological media, reagents, and laboratory supplies.

Animal Care/Vet Technician

Species: mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, goats, alpacas, and nonhuman primates.

Techniques: IM, ID, IP, SQ, and gavage injections in various animals. Blood draws via IV, vena cava, mandible, cardiac puncture, and intra-arterial. Calculate dosages.

Procedures: health exams, microchip, ear tagging, vaccinations, euthanasia, TB testing in NHPs, assist in surgery, anesthetize and recover animals. Participate in aerosol challenges. Participate in pharmacokinetic (PK) studies.

Inventory and Data: Update and sustain an animal inventory in Excel and conduct manual inventory of more than 1,000 animals. Maintain controlled substances records.

Safety and Health Compliance: Work in a BLS3, BLS2, and barrier environment. Maintain the cleanliness of the facility and animal areas. Comply with current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Edited draft SOPs.

Experiments and Research

Thesis Experiment with Asian Clam: Collect clams, water, and sediment from a stream. Examine condition of clams. Dissect and identify parts. Analyze the organic matter of sediment. Execute burial, movement, and pedal feeding experiments. Examine water depth, stream flow, and organic content of various locations where clams were found. Count algae with hemocytometer slides and maintained algae culture. Research journal articles to write papers and a thesis proposal. Maintain accurate records of experiments in a laboratory notebook.

Statistical Analysis: Use Chi square, standard deviation, standard error, non-parametric statistics, and importance index.

Administrative

Ordering and Inventory: Order and maintain inventory of medical and facility supplies including PPE. Stock storage rooms and animal areas. Enter and maintain orders in the Purchasing Online Tracking System, GFEBS, and DMLSS.

Training and Customer Service: Train others in various positions. Mentor coworkers for AALAS exams. Maintain training records. Greet visitors and delivery personnel.

Document Processing: Proofread Science To Achieve Results (STAR) annual and final reports for accuracy, clarity, and adherence EPA requirements. Handle confidential documents. Upload electronic files to shared network drive and to eRoom for electronic filing. Scan, copy, fax, ship, and mail important documents.

Computer Skills

I am proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
