Duties and Responsibilities:
• Department head of the Automated Network Services department, with a staff of four and a budget of just over one million dollars.
• Develop, install, maintain, and monitor a central site computer facility providing a Redhat OS based integrated library system (ILS), a wide-area network (WAN) cosset- ing of 50 locations, 24 Windows and Linux servers and the telecommunication net- work connecting all member library sites; fine tune network design to enhance bandwidth and network cost effectiveness; maintain the hardware and telecommu- nications equipment.
• Provide recommendations for upgrades or replacement of hardware and software to enhance system performance.
• Maintain an awareness and knowledge of technology trends to effectively plan for the future development of the automation services.
• Supervise the installation and repair of the central site and remote PC’s, servers and other equipment in member libraries including computer protection software like Deepfreeze and patron access control software like Envisionware.
• Function as technical resource and consultant for RCLS and member libraries.
• Attend committee meetings and Director’s Association meetings to report on Au- tomated Networked Services activities and long range plans.

Westchester Library System
Senior computer technician and LAN/WAN specialist

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Computer operator on Tandem NON_STOP systems used as central database for all Westch- ester, N.Y. libraries.
• Trained as a Lan/Wan specialist building Westchester Library Systems first IP based WAN connecting all Westchester libraries into a star configuration using Nortel routers (Bay Net- works at the time).
• All libraries were separated by IP subnetted routers to prevent network to network virus infec- tions.
