In 1981, I started studying Mechanical Engineering at Red Rocks College within mining industries and focused on hydraulics, pneumatics and robotics. My international mining and tunneling career started with the Robbins Company in 1986.

Working with many international companies each project is so different from the other. Overseeing the assembly of the Tunnel Boring Machine at the factory in Ohio.

Overseeing that the mining machine being built to Kiewit/ Shea specification and with Robbins spec's. With this TBM it has many safety features for the Rondout-West Branch Bypass. I was in Ohio building and testing with Team Kiewit at the time we cleared 70% of the testing in the shop, 30% will be complete on the Rondout site.

Once the Rondout project starts up I will oversee production of the TBM for the companies Robbins, Kiewit and Shea.

Oversaw the assembling of the Herrenknecht slurry tunnel boring machine including: All surface mobile equipment that supported the production of the project; the assembling of the slurry treatment plant and the Five Compressor plant. Set up surface to underground supply lines.

Hired local mechanical crew, welding crew, operators for the equipment and labor crew to support production. (This underground project was the first for the local unions and new safety rules were imposed.)

Ensured the TBM was built to Herrenknecht specifications and all safety stipulations were applied and working. Required that OSHA specifications were carried out as well

Maintained high maintenance programs for the safety of the personnel and equipment. Instructed safety training programs for local personnel. (Obayashi team trained all local people on the project because this was the first joint venture for a tunneling project.)
