I posted Electronic Payments that can to us from insurance companies, via our Practice Management Software. Made calls to patients with outstanding balances that were 90+ days old and if the patient had a balance that was 120+ days old and had met the providers requirements to be reviewed for collections, I would add to the Collection List. This list is sent to the providers each month for them to review and send back with their decision on whether to send the patient to collections. I was the contact person for this providers collection agency, so I sent everything to them and they sent everything to me. I also answered any questions from the collection agency on accounts or patients. Worked all Insurance denials from the Electronic Payments I posted and any denials from the paper payments that came in through the providers lockbox. Worked on an Outstanding Insurance Balance Work list, through out each month, which consisted of calling some insurances to check claim status and/or checking on the provider portal for claim status. Some claims I could correct the claim on the provider portal, others I would have to submit a corrected claim with the denied Claim Control Number and the Resubmission Code on the claim. Some denials required me to send appeals, depending on which insurance denied they may have a special appeal form, we always attached a copy of the denial, medical records and only ever a claim if the insurance company has asked for it to be sent in with the appeal letter. I always called the insurance company before doing the appeals to find out if they had a special appeal form, if we could fax in our appeal, or what the correct mailing address is for appeals. I also answered the phone and answered patient, responsible party, insurance companies, and any other authorized persons questions on the phone. I was able to run credit card payments through our Practice Management system and then give the patient/resp. party the Auth. #. Worked return mail that we received, by calling the patient numbers we had on file. If no answer, I would leave a voicemail. I would also use the internet, insurance websites, and the provider's office if needed to get the correct info. Ran End of Day, on my days to run it according to the calendar, sent Electronic claims and printed the paper claims and gave those to the correct person who is doing this procedure according to the calendar.
