Engineer, science/technical, and creative writer wanting to prepare technical methods and procedures. I have 25+ years with hands-on field and lab work as well as documentation, report writing with detailed data analyses, including development and preparation of standard operating procedures, proposals, and a host of other literature.

EXPERIENCE

Technical Writer, 2001 to present: As STF, Inc.’s primary freelance technical writer, I prepared numerous test result reports from bench tests, chemical and fieldwork results from Phase 1 site studies to patent and trademark applications.

Project Manager/Field Engineer/Vice President, 1985-2001:

For 16 years, I planned, developed, organized, wrote, and edited operational and testing reports, as well as prepared software products descriptions, proposals, maintenance manuals, and test procedures.

International expert in burning hazardous waste in industrial incinerators and cement kilns. During this time, I worked diligently writing for all manner of technical documents, including client-specific emissions monitoring sampling procedures while also being the project and field engineer. These procedures were for compliance, research, and design purposes from various stationary sources and had to be in concordance with the Code of Federal Regulations.

Vice president of engineering and later vice president of sales and marketing. Reviewed final reports before delivery to clients. Much of these data were prepared under a contract with EPA and as such, I had to make presentations to EPA committees and professional conferences.

Social, Print, & Radio Media, 2005 to present:

As a garden designer, I expanded my writing and speaking strengths to the horticultural industry. Clients include the NC Nursery and Landscape Association, JC Raulston Arboretum, Moss and Stone Gardens, Heronswood, Terra Ceia Farms, Proven Winners, Bloedel Reserve, as well as Gardening with Confidence, Bee Better, P. Allen Smith, and more. Field Editor and writer for Meredith Corporation: Better Homes and Gardens and Country Gardens, where I also have a regular column.

Volunteer and Hobby Work: Since, March 2016, I am the Executive Director and writer of Bee Better Inc., a non-profit, 501(c)3, where I put to use my technical background and writing skills in parring articles about the environment.

Each October, I teach a course at NC State University on how to create a sustainable landscape. I'm currently writing additional classes held throughout the year.
