EXPERIENCE
USDA National Forest Genetics Laboratory (NFGEL) June 16, 2015 - July 30, 2015
Lab Technician Intern
Designed filters for well plates for DNA extraction from gel slices (potential patent to be filed) for Dr. Jennifer DeWoody, which was not a part of the intern duties.
Performed PCR and sequencing reactions and used an ABI machine in order to solve a contamination problem in the lab.
Conducted DNA extraction on plants while following lab protocols and safety procedures carefully.
Abercrombie and Fitch, Roseville, California October 5, 2014 - June 12, 2015
Brand Representative
Greeted and assisted customers in a timely and friendly manner, helping them into fitting rooms as well as dealing with transactions at the cash register.
Tidied the store to make it look presentable, gaining organizational techniques.
Took charge in solving problems that customers had, including misorders, returns, etc.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Oral Presentations
Made effective presentations in front of hundreds of people at Folsom College and UCLA.
Presented a speech to USDA NFGEL employees and directors concerning the contamination of DNA in the lab, and the procedures implemented to determine its origin (through PCR’s, gel electorphoresis, and DNA sequencing).
Leadership and Citizenship
Became the section leader for a Chemical Engineering Senior Project simulating a chemical plant, coordinating and leading a group in order to finish tasks at certain deadlines.
Led a group of students by planning, designing and delegating tasks to the members of the group to build rockets and a boat for Physics projects.
Organized study groups for classes, especially in math courses such as Calculus, helping the study group stay on task as well as answering any of their questions.
Tutoring
Assisted a few of my fellow students as well as family members in Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Differential Equations, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry on a regular basis in addition to organizing group study sessions.
Other Skills
Over a year of experience in MATLAB, creating programs to solve various Chemical Engineering problems and projects.
Numerous years of experience in Excel and PRO/II, all used for a Chemical Engineering Senior Project in designing an Ammonia plant.
PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS
Student Member of Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society for two-year students looking to transfer from a community college.
HONORS & AWARDS
Highest Honors, Good Standing at Folsom Lake College/American River College/Consumnes River College
