Full- time Position

Web Developer and SQL DBA

November 2012 to Current

Developed a suite of ASP.NET applications using Visual Studio 2015, IIS7, VB.Net, C#, JQuery, JavaScript, and SQL 2016. This frame work contains 5 different applications that allow users to query airline flight data for sales and flight planning. We currently subscribe to the Agile approach of development and deploy bi-weekly production updates to web servers and data servers and have daily standup meetings. These applications used Telerik Kendo controls to create new and update old, sluggish web pages. Everything in the shop is fully automated. As time progressed I was able obtain the lead DBA role for the company.

The framework that we built allows users to run reports, save reports, schedule reports to be sent to an email. This framework houses a user hierarchy of user, power user, and admins, where admins can set permissions on users. Admins can run user statistic reports in JQuery and Kendo powered pages and controls. The framework is accompanied by 2 windows services that create scheduled reports and update the customer’s databases.

As lead DBA I create databases, tables, triggers, stored procedures, built and scheduled jobs to maintain database performance, perform backups, fully design databases with full automation for monthly partitions. Some databases are ranging over 6TB in size with over 5 billion rows of data. Performed capacity planning and administered a POC for our 90TB flash storage array. I now manage the entire SAN because it was needed for its increased disk speeds for our SQL databases.

Built and maintain numerous SSIS (Integration Services) packages through SQL Server Agent. These packages connect to a flat file or database data source. Some of their main purposes are to load customer databases on a weekly and monthly basis, run data analysis on incoming FTPs, or update our development environment from production. Was able to build packages with SQL stored procedures that are able to outperform the data processing speed of our in house mainframe due to utilizing multi-threaded tasks, table joins, and indexes instead of sequential processing. Complex data processes are done on raw files to turn data into useable, structured data that the databases can accept.

Built and maintain SSAS (Analysis Services) OLAP cubes that were upwards of 500GB is size. These OLAP cubes had as much as 8 fact tables with 18 dimensions. These cubes are also updated on a weekly and monthly basis. The whole process to import the data and update the cube is fully automated. I was able to write MDX for the web application that utilized the OLAP cubes.

Our newest web application uses Tableau that allows you to view and edit your set of visualizations in a web page within our frame work. We query Tableau through its back end PostgreSQL database and issue gets and sets through their REST API. I built the automation process that pulls data from SQL and builds the extracts that the Tableau visualization reads.
