SONY CORPORATION OF AMERICA, Park Ridge, NJ 2003 - 2017

Senior Manager IT Infrastructure UNIX/Linux Managed a large technical UNIX/Linux team of more than 40 outsourced technical professionals from IBM and TCS Service Organizations supporting AIX, HPUX, Solaris and Linux. Directed support for US and European datacenters in a private cloud and direct server setup.

Built and consolidated datacenters to support disaster recovery, cost reduction initiatives, and migration to Outsource organization.

Created and managed a $9M budget for the UNIX group for hardware/software leasing and hardware/software maintenance.

Architected and planed the server environment by evaluating and recommending new technology such as virtual computing (hypervisor) and storage technologies (XIV, NetApp) which contributed to improving functionality and reducing costs.

Promoted continuous improvement through reducing costs, improving productivity and transitioning from a highly physical environment to a highly virtualized environment. Also, drove SIP (Service Improvement Plan) by driving OS patching, firmware upgrades, security updates, monitoring and data backup.

Ensured that adequate security measures were in place and in compliance with internal security policies as well as industry best practices (SOX, PCI).

Setup integration on UNIX systems with Active Directory for a single userid and password using the Dell/Quest VAS product. Also, setup root and privileged access using the Leiberman tool integrating with the Dell/Quest VAS product and Active Directory.

Used the Active Directory and UNIX integration to push standards and security parameters to the UNIX servers.

Created, updated and validated documentation and SOP’s for the group.

Mentored the Outsourced staff in not only methods of doing things, but also the industry standards that needed to be followed.

Maintained the 24 x 7 support organization.

Managed and partnered with outside companies and vendors to ensure that SLAs were met and engaged vendors to resolve complex issues.

Developed business continuity plans with related documentation and participated in disaster recovery test exercises.

Followed ITIL framework to manage formal processes.

Directed technical environment changes through formal change management process while communicating the impact to application stakeholders.

Selected for a 5-month assignment in London to manage the transition of four European data centers to IBM Managed Services (two in the UK and two in Belgium).
