Ciena Network Engineer December 2015 – April 2018

Engineer for ISP customers with 5 years of industry experience. Led projects that consisted of optical network audits, network designs, and network modifications. Responsibilities also included providing technical support on all projects.

•Specialized in supporting Optical Multi-Service Edge 6500 Layer 0, Layer 1, & Layer 2 technologies. This includes ROADM Fixed Grid, OTN, and packet switching technologies.

•Troubleshot Ciena software and hardware products on customer’s optical network.

•Conferenced with customers, utilized IVR and VPN to connect to customer networks, and provide technical support.

•Gauged the customer’s expectations on issues and provide clear communication while troubleshooting so they have an overview of what is being done to resolve the issue and the time required for the issue to be resolved.

•Utilized TL1 scripts to audit customer’s network, collect logs, and collect debug information for root cause analysis.

Cisco Systems CALO CO-OP May 2013 – June 2014

Intern in Cisco’s CALO lab for first 7 months. Responsibilities included recreating customer networks using Cisco switches and routers for Technical Assistance Engineers to troubleshoot.

•Upgraded/downgraded software on Cisco switches and routers.

•Recreate the portion of the customer’s network that has an issue in the lab.

•Passed the CCNA.

Intern in Cisco’s Technical Assistance Center for the LAN Switching Team for 6 months. Responsibilities included technical assistance for all Layer 1 and 2 issues on Cisco products.

•WebEx with customer to troubleshoot Layer 2 issues on Cisco switches.

Notable Project

Resident Network Engineer

While working for Ciena I was a Resident Network Engineer for an ISP customer. Responsible for network backbone expansion, engineering procedure creation, providing solutions to network issues, and maintaining customer relations.

•Primary resident engineer at the VzW Branchburg offices in New Jersey. Provided on site technical support and collaborated with customers to prep for incoming projects.

•Created detailed engineering procedures to increase backbone capacity on live network.

•Responsible for OME 6500 turnups, supporting nightly maintenance work on the backbone network, and assisted in customers meeting project deadlines.
