To Whom it May Concern,
I am an emerging professional with a degree in English from Temple University (‘15), and two certificates from the University of Michigan (via Coursera) in Python and Video Game Design. I am beginning my programming career and am writing to you concerning a Programmer Analyst position with Syntel.
I have a long lasting interest in science and technology, and I believe my skills and experiences qualify me for the position as a Programmer Analyst with Syntel. As an English major I learned data analysis and communication. I am able to examine large amounts of data and pick out what is important and what can be built upon either for study or further development. I can also clearly document my findings and present them in a clear and concise manner.
My interest in programming began as a fascination with video games and coding, but has grown into a desire to pursue it as a career. After graduating from college I enrolled in a certificate course in Video Game Design. During that course I learned programming basics in C# using the Unity engine (I took C++ in college); after, I committed to delve deeper and enrolled in a second course in Python. My studies involved the basics of Python programming such as defining functions, math calculations, and document scanning. The course evolved into deeper areas of programming: developing programs that focus on database construction with integrated SQL and web scraping. What originally attracted me to Python was the straightforward syntax and accessibility, but the versatility and power behind the language is what has kept me interested. There is always something new to learn and different ways to solve problems and apply that learned knowledge into the development of an application.
My position as a technician with Simply Mac gave me experience in a fluid working environment. My daily duties consisted of organizing and creating repairs, checking in on customers concerning the status of their repairs, as well as ordering parts and fixing devices. We received direct feedback from our customers, so if I made a mistake or if a customer was not contacted on a regular basis, I would know about it and it would reflect poorly on me. As a technician I strived to perform to the top of my abilities at all times, and that required me to manage many different projects simultaneously. It was normal for me to be engaged in concurrent repairs, while communicating directly with Apple on the status of repairs that had to be sent to them, and relaying that information directly to the customer, as well as keeping clear records on repairs and customer interaction.
My study of Python gave me a solid foundation to build a career; my education and work experience gave me the skills to deal with change in a fluid and dynamic professional setting. Currently I am taking two more certificate courses, one in object oriented programming with Python, the other based on examining and thwarting cyber security threats in a Kali Linux environment. I believe that the enthusiasm that I bring combined with my current skills and desire to learn more make me a perfect fit for your team, I am a strong candidate for a Programmer Analyst position with Syntel.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Devon J. Vila
