ACADEMIC PROJECT

Evaluation of Mechanical Properties of Aluminium Based Hybrid Composite

(Project secured Second place in EXBHITECH'14- A final year project exhibition under ISTE held at Dr.M.V.S.I.T)

This project was a step to decrease the rate of fatigue failure of Aluminium composite by manufacturing it in a cost effective way and to decrease the environment pollution. A hybrid composite was manufactured by liquid metallurgy (Stir cast) technique using Aluminium Al-6061 as base alloy having 2wt%, 3wt%, 4wt% of coconut shell ash (CSA) powder and e-glass fibres respectively.

Significant improvement in tensile & hardness properties with decrease in wear rate was noticeable as the wt% of the reinforcement was increased. It was concluded that the composite can be tested for brake rotors, piston brakes, bicycle frames, nose & spoilers of racing cars.
