There are 2x220MWe reactors which are indigenously designed pressurized heavy water reactors using heavy water as both moderator and coolant.
De mineralized water is used as secondary coolant.
Natural uranium is used as the fuel.
It is the first power plant to have indoor switch yard.
Power Generation:
Reactor core is called Calandria
It consists of 306 horizontal tubes made of zircaloy.
Each tube consists of 12 fuel bundles.
Total reactor power is 801.9MW out of which around 30% is transferred to the output
Undergone In-Plant Training in BHAVANI:
The Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) is a 500 MWe fast breeder nuclear reactor
The reactor will be a pool-type reactor with 1,750 tonnes of sodium as coolant. Designed to generate 500 MWe of electrical power, with an operational life of 40 years, It will burn a mixed uranium-plutonium MOX fuel, a mixture of PuO2 and UO2.
