LABORATORY (cont’d)
Took multiple long exposures of diffracted lasers under low light conditions and analyzed different methods of measuring spot sizes.
One of the traditional methods was to scan the Gaussian beam through a slit, but the procedure takes too long and is very sensitive to the scanning path across the beam.
Another method was called the straight knife edge where the spot size was calculated from variations in photo detector ouput power. However, the scanning the beam at a uniformly constant speed.
The last method was finding the ratio of minimum output power to the total power of the Gaussian beam when an opaque ribbon is scanned across it. This method proved to be the simplest and fastest method in calculating the spot size.
Pictures were normalized using ImageJ to remove the offset. In addition, we were able to measure spot size of the laser from just the image.
Observed the limitations of CMOS and CDC cameras due to temperature fluctuations. Ion –Mobility Mass Spectrometry
Using a spectrometer, we measured the intensity, absorbance, transmittance, and fluorescence with the PASCO software
We then tried to identify different objects by observing the light spectrum and comparing them to already known spectra.
Observed the spectra of Helium, Hydrogen, and Deuterium and recorded the distances to observe the differences in wavelength of light and the intensity of each color. C++ Game Design
Built a game world using inheritance to design protagonists and enemies. Each protagonist was part of the same team, but had his or her own special skills. Similarly the enemies were part of different teams, but shared common traits within each of their teams.
Implemented a maze solver using both stacks and queues that would go from the start and add in adjacent open spots to the queue or stack.
Built a miniature garage door with a light sensor
• Used Arduino to program a garage door that opens using a motor driven spool. Once a car/object interferes the light sensor, the garage door will be on open mode. If the laser stays connected to the receiver, the garage will be on off mode.
• The garage was programmed to close automatically after 5 seconds (off mode) if the laser connects to receiver.
Micromouse
• Used a PCB with 5 sensors connected. One sensor in the front and two sensors on each side.
• Differential drive system with two driver wheels and one castor wheel. The castor wheel is positioned so that the centroid of motion remains at the center of the micromouse.
• Arduino was used to program the micromouse. Used the Wall follower algorithm where the micromouse makes every right turn possible until the goal is reached. EE 111L/EE 10L
• Built RLC circuits on a breadboard in lab and observed the behavior on NI Elvismx oscilloscope as different AC/DC voltages were input using the NI Function Generator.
• Time domain and frequency domain analysis of RLC circuits and plotted using Bode plots on MyDaq
• Observed electrical impedance with varying amplitudes an relative phases. Strategist and Coach
