Senior System Engineer (2001 to 2015)
Architect, design, and deploy storage area networks (SAN) to support Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters), Veritas NetBackup environments, and disk storage units. Develop and deploy PERL scripts for use in wide range of production environments. Conduct proof-of-concept evaluations on disk and fibre channel technologies. Partner with hosting and storage vendors to solve problems and develop new solutions.
Promoted in 2015 to lead the Compute and Storage team for the VMware Cloud group.
Improved allocation process 70% and streamlined host storage provisioning process by creating a Perl script that utilized existing configuration files and automatically allocated capacity. Using the configuration file insured a repeatable process as well as a version history of what was done and when.
Boosted storage availability and connectivity 60% by extending SAN fabric to multiple floors in company’s data centers.
Freddie Mac Reston, VA 2001
Unix System Engineer/Acuity Contractor
Delivered software engineering support for Tivoli Intraverse 2.1 in production, development, and test environments. Performed troubleshooting, core file analysis, and network bottleneck identification/resolution.
Increased reliability of Intraverse application 50%, eliminated crashes due to network congestion, and improved network utilization by analyzing TCP statistics and utilizing results to tune several parameters.
Earlier Career includes positions as a Unix System Engineer/Acuity Contractor with UUNET and as a Data Communications Engineer/Lead Unix System Engineer with Cable & Wireless Inc.
Boosted UUNET’s host efficiency 70% by developing a SUN VTS-based testing and simulation environment.
During tenure with Cable and Wireless, led host conversion to Veritas Volume Manager that improved stability/reliability to 75% from roughly 30%.
Implemented SAN for Cable & Wireless that streamlined storage administration tasks by 50%.
Instituted a database backup solution at Cable & Wireless that improved recoverability and efficiency by 80%.
