Engineering Manager / General Manager

Senior Project Manager

Led the Industrial Water & Process division’s project management group and coordinate the activities of the Process Engineering group.

Trained the Process Engineering group in making the conversion from consulting projects to EPC contracts.

Managed a critical path water treatment project with six-month schedule for Detailed Engineering as part of an EPC contract for a major mining company. Project was completed on schedule, thus avoiding further court action against the client.

Managed a Front End Study for a major Gulf Coast refinery to evaluate and propose improvements to the oil-water separation processes in the waste water treatment plant. Project was completed 24% under budget.

Managed a major project for the removal of Arsenic from plant waste water for a major Rocky Mountain refinery. Project progressed through two phases of preliminary design, on budget and schedule.

Managed a Front End Design Package for a major Southwest Refinery to design process improvements to the refinery waste water plant to achieve reductions in selenium. Water recycle to the plant was increased through addition of secondary & tertiary Reverse Osmosis systems. Project was delivered on schedule and budget.

MAVERICK ENGINEERING, Victoria, Texas 2008-2011

Senior Project Manager

Served as Project Manager on a very fast track EPC project (23.0 MM BTU/hr fired heater) for DCP Midstream. Project budget of $9.0 MM was underrun by 15%, and the aggressive schedule of 6 months from kickoff to startup was achieved.

Led the industrial division’s project management group, managing a 6-member team of project managers and subcontractors in the development of 3 projects representing $125M for key client, Valero McKee refinery. Drove each program from initial conception and planning into the “Phase III” design engineering stage, overseeing scope, scheduling, resources, estimating, project costing, and cash flow forecasting while resolving all issues.

Improved the accuracy of monthly forecasting to within 5% with the creation and implementation of an expenditures forecasting and monitoring spreadsheet, adopted by project management across corporate divisions.

Similarly enhanced the process and accuracy of cost estimating, significantly speeding the project approval process, with the development of a standardized spreadsheet tool.

Successfully overcame entrenched processes within the client’s operation to begin the process of introducing best practice project management tools.
