Research Assistant:

Prepared Cellulose acetate (CA) and Polycarbonate (PC) Blend Ultra filtration (UF) membranes with and without additives

Polyethylene Glycol 600 (PEG600) is used as the additive in various concentration such as 0,2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10 wt% in the total CA/PC wt%.

These membranes were Characterized in terms of Compaction studies, Pure water flux, Water content and Membrane Hydraulic pressure using Ultra filtration set up.

The UF experiments were carried out in a batch type, dead end cell(UF cell S76-400-Model, Spectrum) with a diameter of 76 mm, fitted with Teflon coated magnetic peddle. This cell was connected to a compressor with pressure control valve and gauge through its feed reservoir.

The top surface and cross section of the membranes were examined using Scanning Electron microscope(SEM).

The prepared membranes were subjected to application studies such as protein rejection and metal ion rejection.

The rejection studies were carried out for the evaluation of the performance of membranes.

Compared the performance of CA/PC and CA/PC/PEG600 blend membranes.

PRESENTATION

Presented a paper separation of proteins and toxic metals from aqueous solutions using modified cellulose acetate/polycarbonate membranes. International conference on Eco-Conservation for sustainable development held on 1st to 3rd Feb 2012 at Department of plant Biology and Plant Bio Technology in Quiade Milleth Government College, Chennai, India.

Paper entitled studies on cellulose acetate and polycarbonate blend ultra filtration membranes I - effect of additive in Indo-Europe workshop on recent developments in Membrane Technology for industrial applications (MESMSEP '11) held during 10th to11th Feb 2011 at Department of chemical engineering A.C. tech., Anna University, Chennai, India.

PARTICIPATION

Participated in one day international seminar on Development of liquid filtration and purification industry in Japan and India, MEMSEP at ACTECH Anna University 27th November 2006.

Underwent analytical instrumental training at SIAST Analytical instruments, Chennai, India from March 2017-May2017.
