The most challenging part of any project is getting the client in a supported, patched, and updated environment before any work begins. There are a 100 other things that I don’t have room to mention here. PKI, OoS, Forest Consolidation, AD Clean-up, and Secure Communications were LAN/WAN were major projects in their own respect.
