Family Medicine in Andrews, Tx with Dr. Nayak
At this Family Medicine clinic I was exposed to rural health care and was taught how to take care of patients without the ability to quickly refer our patients to other providers. I was exposed to chronic disease management such as diabetes, heart failure, chronic lung disease, and pain management. We saw a large amount of pediatric patients at this clinic and performed well-child checks as well as newborn checks and sick visits for children.
OBGYN in Odessa, Texas with Dr. Harris
At this busy OB/GYN practice I was thrown into the chaos and quickly witnesses and participated in several delivery and surgeries. I was able to work as Dr. Harris “first assist” in most of his cesarean sections and various tubal ligations and hysterectomies. I witnessed 30+ cesarean deliveries and 25+ vaginal deliveries. I scrubbed into 40+ gyn surgeries as well. During clinic, I was allowed to perform 70+ pap smears during my 6 week rotation which I became very confident and comfortable performing. I also witnessed several cryotherapy procedures, IUD insertions, and Nexplanon insertions.
Emergency Medicine in Odessa, Texas with Basin Physician Group During my ER rotation at Medical Center I would see 35+ patient per 10 hour shift and became very comfortable handling the large patient load as well as the high level of care provided at MCH. I learned from the best physicians in the area and sharpened my suturing/stapling and I&D skills, performing these small procedures daily. I successfully intubated 3 patients and attempted intubation on 2 more patients during my 6 weeks in the ER. I became comfortable reading imaging and confident in my decision making for severely ill patients.
Psychiatry in Midland, Texas with Dr. Pepermintwala At this Psychiatry clinic I became very familiar with diagnosis, treatment and management of ADHD, ODD, Schizophrenia, Depression, Anxiety and Bipolar Disorder. I also saw several patients with various Eating Disorders, Personality Disorders and PTSD. I learned what genetic testing to do on psychiatric patients and was able to follow their care through their therapy and medication regimens.
Pediatrics in Big Spring, Texas with Dr. Ahmed
During this rotation, I was exposed to rural pediatric medicine and was able to witness several medical anomalies I had not yet witnessed. We cared for Turner’s Syndrome, Downs Syndrome, Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, Gilbert Syndrome, asthma, various dermatologic conditions, urinary anomalies and meningitis/encephalitis. I also cared for children from birth to 18 year olds, and participated in ordering laboratory values, imaging, and occasionally hospital admissions. Rotations
